I agree 100% Alfonso! I was just about to post a FR for this but found your post first! The Pr team has already changed the look and colours of many things in Pr, most of these being inconsequential changes that are of little to no help to anyone. So it would be nice to see the same being done where it would actually be helpful and make a difference.

    All,

first of all I wanted to thank everyone for making this a productive conversation over the last couple of days.

As several people responded to my comment about keeping the tone civilised, I need to dwell on that for a minute. Please hear me out, this is important to everyone on my crew and I hope it will be to you.

Saying that we shouldn't be surprised when things get heated is very problematic in my opinion. How do you expect a junior person on my team to respond to a technical question when it is combined with something that can easily be described as hate speech? How do you think we can actually come together on actual issues when there's already the assumption that we're a big faceless corporation, not even listening to our customers?

People on my team have received threats. I've been there over the years,…

@WILLIAM COONS Sorry to say, but Joe D is spot on. The fact of the matter is not just that the new interface is junk compared to the previous one, it's that it must have taken the Pr team a TON more resources to program than had they just fixed the few minor issues the previous export window had. It also displays a complete lack of respect on the Pr team's part for our most pressing needs as editors. Rather than fix any of the dozens of shortcomings we've been asking them to fix, some for years already, they decided to ignore all that and indulge in their ego-driven pet project to give us something they might have thought was clever, but none of us were asking for. If Pr were not a subscription based program, I suspect the vast majority of users would stick with the previous version and Adobe would feel much more financial pain as a result of their callous disregard for their users. But since they've put a 'noose' around our necks with their 'pay to play' subscription model that traps us into paying for every upgrade whether we want it or not, forever, they feel free to indulge in silly pet projects such as the new export window while continuing to ignore our real needs as editors. If you have any difficulty imagining what some of the dozens of improvements Pr still needs orders of magnitude more than the dumbed-down Export interface we got, I invite you to take a look at my Facebook User group where I've literally posted dozens of FR (all of them also posted here on User Voice): https://www.facebook.com/groups/premiereprofeaturerequests.

The Pr team sure is acting like they've got their 'boot' on our necks, and guess what? We hate it! I suspect that s**t like this would NOT be happening if Adobe were still on the previous model where they actually had to entice their users to pay for upgrades with new features that moved Pr forward rather than backward.

We might be a vocal minority, but we also speak for the hundreds of thousands of users who never bother to speak up. That's why Adobe should take our feedback seriously since for every single person that speaks up, there's usually anywhere from 100 to 10,000 other people who feel the same but don't bother saying anything because they don't know how or simply don't care to take the time.

You CAN hit the Esc button to exit the Export interface. This was thankfully introduced recently.

Unfortunately, hitting Enter to activate the blue Export button still doesn't work (which oddly DOES work in the Quick Export menu). What were the designers thinking?

If you want to make Pr 'fun' to use once again, the best way to do so is with the Excalibur plugin (https://knightsoftheeditingtable.com/excalibur)

It addresses so many issues that using it has vastly improved my editing experience! Hope this helps!

@Joe D "The more we advertise Add-ons and workarounds, the less Adobe will be inclined to actually fix it on their end."

I see your point, but given Adobe's apathy and poor track record, I think it's better for us users to help each other with tips on solutions that currently exist today rather than wait forever for the Pr team to get their act together. That's why I keep mentioning Excalibur. I can't imagine using Pr without it and I want to help others learn about it since it can help editors so much.

Which one did Adobe give us?...

BTW, click on the link above to learn about the biggest editing workflow improvement of the last 10 years (it's a plug-in that allows you to assign keyboard shortcuts to any effect, transition or preset, among so many other things!)

@Steven Probets "How about making the export screen fully customisable."

I wholeheartedly disagree. The MAIN issue with the new export window is that it robbed so many programming resources from other issues that are so much more important. The last thing I want to see is the Pr team dumping even more resources into this (minus bug fixes of course), so their attention can be put where it's actually needed. Imagine if they wasted the better part of yet another development cycle adding a bunch of fancy bells and whistles to their new export interface. There's well over 100 things I can think of that need more attention, such as thumbnail generation slowing everything down to a crawl. While I don't like the new Export interface and its Fisher Price look, I just created a bunch of presets and I access them through the Quick Export interface. This way I can avoid the new Export Interface altogether. If I want to test a bunch of export options, I can always use AME.

To recap, even though there's still a few bugs and it requires more clicks to get things done, the main issue isn't how poorly designed the new interface is. The main issue is the Pr team doesn't care enough about our actual needs as editors to set aside their ego-driven pet projects and work on what would actually make a huge difference on our day-in, day-out editing.

If you'd like some ideas on features that would make a bigger difference, you can check out my FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/premiereprofeaturerequests

If the Pr team refuses to give us back the far better designed Export window we used to have, at the very least fix these 3 things so that the new interface is less infuriating:
    1. When you create a new preset and hit 'Enter' to activate the blue highlighted 'OK' button, the preset should be saved rather than just closing the 'Save Preset' window without saving the preset! (see pic)
    2. Allowing users to set a bitrate all the way down to 1/1000th of a Mbps is insane. 1/10th of a Mbps is the max any reasonable person would ever want to go to. Is anyone ever going to see the difference between 30.666 and 30.667 Mbps? (see pic 2)
    3. Include bitrate settings in the main Video drop down menu rather than hiding them under '...More'. Bitrate settings are the #1 thing people will want to change on a regular basis, so why hide it as if it's secondary information? This is design insanity!

BTW, THANK YOU for now allowing us to hit the 'Esc' key to exit the Export interface, just as we could before with the previous Export window! (BUG: after creating a preset (or failing to create one by hitting 'Enter' instead of clicking 'OK'), the 'Esc' key does not work to exit the Export interface. After manually exiting it by clicking on the 'Edit' button and entering it again , the 'Esc' key works once again.

    @Michael Sigmon

I agree with you with regards to #spreadkindness. I'd love to see Adobe spreading more of it.

If you see people so upset about the new export interface, I think it's not because it's all that bad itself, but because it shows a lack of care on Adobe's part to tackle the issues that actually affect us the most. If you're dying of thirst and someone came by offering you a steak, would you consider that to be a kind gesture? The point is that no one was asking for a complete overhaul of the export interface. Doing a complete overhaul rather than fixing the minor issues in the previous (and IMO far better designed) interface not only took resources away from far more pressing matters, but it also led to new bugs that the Pr team is spending even more resources on now to fix. It's true that people can be unfairly vicious with their comments sometimes, but what the Pr team did here smacks of abject indifference to our needs as professional editors. That, IMO, is 'vicious' in and of itself. What I see here in this thread are people simply losing patience and no longer willing to put up with Adobe's carelessness.

"If you're working at Adobe, by definition you care about the users and you know what you're doing."
I wish the evidence didn't so often prove otherwise. Did the team know what they were doing years ago when they created a crop tool without something as obviously necessary as side handles, or any of the other obvious design blunders that have been made since? I'm willing to forgive passed mistakes, but like others in this tread, I get angry when I see new careless mistakes being made like clockwork. Respect goes both ways. When Adobe respects its users, its users respect it back. Right now, it seems to be two steps forward, one step back.

Well said John! Bottom line is the Pr team cares more about feeding their egos and dumping resources into their little pet projects to 'improve' Pr than their user base and providing us with what actually matters most to us. It's sad and pathetic behaviour on a corporate level. I'm glad to see so many people calling them out on their sh*t. Maybe they'll finally start listening and stop screwing around live they so blatantly did on the last major release. Even their beta program seems to be for nothing. When I point out issues or bugs, it's almost always met with silence, or even worse, the response 'that's not a bug, we programed it that way on purpose'. For all the money Adobe is worth, they're going bankrupt in the department of empathy and care for its users.

How the (@$#% hasn't this been added already?! It's such as SIMPLE request, and it's so easy to understand the benefits of this! While you can mute the Source Monitor using the Audio Clip Mixer, that window takes about 1000x more screen real estate than a tiny mute icon in the Source Monitor would. Furthermore, if the clip has several audio channels, it should be possible to mute individual tracks so that you can focus on the track that has the relevant audio.

You can skip that nonsense altogether by creating different project presets with Post Haste (a HUGE time saver everyone should use, and it's free). I've never used the new import page once since I never start with a blank project, so my projects open on the Edit page, with all of my favourite Bins and media already populating the Project window.

100%! Also, the vertical height should remain constant if we want it to, so that it doesn't differ between subtitles like these:

    4. tqotqotqo

YES! Remove this restriction. In the days of YouTube, smartphones and millions of other ways to watch content on NON-overscan screens, forcing a safe margin on us is completely idiotic! Please make it an on/off setting in the Preferences window.
