I would go one step further. As the number of layers grow and the timeline grows too, it gets difficult to mange the real estate of the timeline. It would be great to reuse a layer for another object in the same layer to save space and ergonomics. For instance even for repeated animations we need to create as many layers. Thereby growing the timeline vertically as well as horizontally. Thus it become unmanageable after it gets pretty big. Imagine 50 variations of an animation at different times, means fifty different layers growing downwards

Yes I agree. Swf import was briefly there in Premiere. We need this badly. Jim has commented that swf is not a edit codec. So is mp4. But many people edit directly in mp4. Please leave editability to editors and dont remove features.

If multiple clips could be put on the same layer in AE, most jobs would become easier. Our video stories are often too complex. Scrolling vertically for clips and simultaneously scrolling horizontally for advancing the story makes our lives difficult. The entire timeline becomes a matrix of clips. It is so easy in PPro. Because things grow mostly horizontally. All logical clips are in the same layer.

As of now even if you pre-comp / nest all complex clips and finally put all of the main nested clips on one master timeline, they will grow diagonally as the play head advances not horizontally as it should, adding unnecessary vertical search. Bad ergonomics you see.
