Peter Martel You're right, I was creating new presets and then making a Definitive Backup. I had the good idea to update the software and it canceled me out. Typically the presets are always moved to the new version so I didn't think of doing the preliminary backup. If I knew it would erase everything, it would be my first concern before updating!

Submitted feature request 2728429. Requesting not just presets but templates (which could automate certain fields or values) and copy/paste between files.
An error occurred while saving the comment NICKY G. commented
also the possibility of being able to copy "all" the ID3 fields from one file and paste them into another (respecting the fields, and the photo) .. so with a single copy and paste transfer all TAGs.
