    Hi all,

There are two parts to this request:

    1. Ensuring that proxies are created respecting changes that have already been applied to media via Interpret Footage.

    2. Ensuring that changes in Interpret Footage are applied to proxies that have already been created.

The first part was done and is in v23 or later of Premiere Pro and Media Encoder. The second part is being worked on but I don't have a release data to share at this time.

    Regards,

    Fergus

When you said next version did you mean CC23 or some other next version. What is the actual status of this request. Can we get an update from Adobe?

Only workaround I've found is to export to a prores quicktime and then convert that file with ffmpeg. Not at all ideal but the chapter makers show up in VLC.

This 1000. Also for newbies or even when coming back to Essential Graphics after awhile its pretty opaque as to how to make an new title. It should just have a big plus button somewhere when you open it up that says add text or add title, but instead you have this little new page icon that is not at all obvious. Maybe a button for each item type instead of one button for them all.

I usually do stuff in After Effects but I was reminded today when using EG how backwards all of it seems at times.

    All,

first of all I wanted to thank everyone for making this a productive conversation over the last couple of days.

As several people responded to my comment about keeping the tone civilised, I need to dwell on that for a minute. Please hear me out, this is important to everyone on my crew and I hope it will be to you.

Saying that we shouldn't be surprised when things get heated is very problematic in my opinion. How do you expect a junior person on my team to respond to a technical question when it is combined with something that can easily be described as hate speech? How do you think we can actually come together on actual issues when there's already the assumption that we're a big faceless corporation, not even listening to our customers?

People on my team have received threats. I've been there over the years,…

The import screen is pretty bad as well tbh.

Whenever I click around in there I accidentally check a massive root folder and premiere starts to index a 10TB folder trying to add thousands of videos the project.

If you don't double click fast enough you are in deep trouble and I'm not even sure how to "unselect" things once they get added its a huge downgrade. Once it starts digging through big folders the performance of the app slows to a crawl.

There should be a folder browser on the left and a selection option on right. Just like old media browser. Having select and browse in the same window is a huge mistake IMO.

Can't quite figure out why pixel aspect ratio (I can count on one hand the last time I wanted an anamorphic pixel aspect ratio in the last 10 years) is under the main block of settings and bit-rate and other settings are buried deep within the settings.

"For example, we can use media encoder, but with medium/big project it take a lot to load the whole project. A lot of time there are issues with 3rd party plugins, AEcomps and other."

    100% This.

Everyone who works in this program daily has had too many broken exports from Media Encoder to know that that is a unsable workaround. It just slows you down and you never know if an effect or AE comp will fail to load or use the wrong version of the AE comp or export with weird audio. Not to mention the huge slowdown just to open media encoder or load a project.

Agree that this is sort of straw that breaks the camels back moment and that I feel handcuffed by my 100s of prproj files and AE comps that I at times need to reference. Its not even just AE and PR its Photoshop and Illustrator and the whole
CC suite that is creaking under the weight of decades old code.

I'm sure there are good people working within the company and that it may even be a wonderful place to work, it just seems like the priorities have been very misplaced ever since it moved to a SaaS model. Making the tools more accessible to a wider audience via 55$ a months vs 2500-3000$ investment has had the side effect of bringing in a lot of people who might want something completely different from their NLE than those who spend 40-50 hours a week in the program cutting commercials, TV, and films. If you don't want to make a product that caters to professionals than just drop the "Pro" from Premiere's name.

Those who consider ourselves professional want professional stable tools. We don't need big thumbnails on import, we don't need automated audio mixing, we don't need automated color grading, we don't post our media straight from the NLE to the client's channels, or any of the other pieces that have been put into the software that are of little use to us. We are experts. We want expert tools. We want to fiddle. We want to tinker. We are going to bristle at anything slows us down for even 3 seconds or feels like a tutorial.

Those of us who feel trapped inside the Adobe ecosystem have seen other companies evolve at a rapid clip. There is a French company out there with 8, and I repeat 8, employees who is creating a new layer based motion graphics tool that seems like more of an answer to prayer than anything Adobe has been putting out for After Effects. It's called Autograph. Look it up. It has real-time playback of nearly everything, grouped layers, and more. Once that hits the market I think I'm gone. Resolve is adding killer features by the day it seems white premiere can't display a waveform consistently or mix audio consistently in real-time.

Anyways I hope this little user-voice revolt is a turning point for Adobe. I would echo other's sentiment that the press is only bad at this point and that we need to see the receipts on the positive feedback, and something tells me its not from the everyday heavy users.

We hear your frustrations about color management and we are working on multiple improvements.

I recently posted a note on Alister Chapman's excellent xdcam-user.com forum, in response to a post he'd made about color management in Premiere Pro.

While my response doesn't go into details on our long term plans, it describes what we're doing in the short term to make handling of log footage easier.

    Here's what I wrote:

    Hi all,

I’m a product manager at Adobe, on the video team. I thought I’d chime in to provide some info on what we’re doing.

Color management is not going away – quite the opposite. As HDR-capable cameras and displays are becoming the default, and shooting in log or raw is becoming the norm, color management is critical. Gone are the days of only Rec709, the one color space to rule them all.

You might have seen reports about HDR…

Just ran into this where a massive EXR sequence was dumped onto my hard drive with no way to cancel the process. Should just be a single frame.

I use E/R as frame advance left one right one frame and keep Q/W as ripple trim so if you have it mapped like that you just have to bounce between R and Q on the keyboard with the left hand. Its not so bad but yeah I can see how this is annoying if you are left on default keyboard mapping.

My keyboard shortcuts are loosely based on this guy's. Sort of changed my life ha.

Just here reporting one year later to say previews / dynamic link are still incredibly broken.

An error occurred while saving the comment
    Scott Crozier commented  ·

Still broken. The only way i can use previews it seems is if I use the "Smart Render" function. As in outputting a rendered ProRes422HQ timeline using "match sequence" and then rendering it out to another ProRes 422HQ.

I don't know why it doesn't use previews for output outside of the smart render feature. Its very frustrating. This feature has been broken on and off for a number of years you never know when updating premiere which features will still work and which ones are going to be broken.

This is extremely frustrating. Almost every part of a dynamic link / render preview workflow is broken these days. Either the preview files go offline / red, requiring a re-render, or premiere refuses to use them on export. Its maddening.

This is a bread and butter task of so many editors and yet adobe has yet to move on some of the things that would make our day to day lives better (thumbnail cache, how is this not a thing)

I have complained about this for maybe 12 years since I switched over from Sony Vegas (ahead of its time). It's laughable that we are still dealing with an interface that can't draw a waveform in realtime. Its 2022, not 1997.

This user voice thing has to be a joke. There are 72 items "under review" and Adobe has marked 3 as "in progress." All of the things in progress are relatively minor or inconsequential features compared to the top voted features such as this one. Certainly they can work on more than 3 minor features a year. The point of this was supposed to prioritize the needs of editors instead we get scene cut detection, a somewhat niche workflow.

    *Endless sigh*

Render files \ dynamic link still extremely broken on several fronts. Adobe marketing running the ship looking for shiny new features to promote on what's new while basic functionality is in tatters. I hope the Frame.IO people they gobbled up can show them how to make a decent product.

I lose all dynamic link renders once I close or repopen AE. Big problem especially when I use Plexus. Also the use previews box doesn't function unless smart rendering.
