I can see the benefit of a feature like this, but for those who need very intricate manual control over bin organization in versioned multi-sequence projects, this feature would have to be optional.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your responses. This is certainly helpful. I just tested the "Upgrade to Source Graphic" feature and have to say that will solve a lot of issues our studio has had with EG.

Something to consider: Why not have EGP default to creating "Source Graphics" rather than it creating something "lesser" requiring the editor to fish around for the "Upgrade to..." function for the graphic he/she just created?

Also I will be very interested to test the upgrade feature once it graduates from beta. And for those of us interested, what is the best way to beta test and participate in comments on beta versions?

Thanks, Mike. I am unfamiliar with the Beta workflow, but will research. Will the "Upgrade Legacy Title" feature be implemented automatically upon launching a project (similar to the way launching a project created in an older version of Premiere prompts the user to save as a new version)?

If so, that sounds great. Of course it would be much better if it also included shapes--a lot of lower thirds and even full screen graphics have been generated entirely in Legacy Titler at our post house.

Also, I was not aware of the new graphics ability to live in project bins. I will research that as well, but by "Source Graphics" do you mean that in order for Essential Graphics titles to appear in bins, one has to import a graphic such as a photoshop file or jpg into the EGP itself?

    Hi Mike,
Just last week a client asked me to update a font built in Legacy Titler. Because the title existed in a project bin, I was able to use the project search bar to immediately locate the title among hundreds of others populated throughout a 20-minute program.
Additionally--and again because of the way Legacy Titler is file-based--once the title was updated ALL OTHER INSTANCES of that title were immediately up-to-date not only in that 20 minute program, but everywhere it was scattered across 12 or so television commercials within the same project file. That is the kind of time-saving power my production company has come to rely on with Adobe Premiere Pro. I hope these features can be addressed in the new workflow.

But whether or not that is possible, my number one request of essential graphics is that it is able to open titles created in legacy titler and move forward with them within essential graphics.
When I open a longform project with over 100 Legacy titles... I cannot be expected to rebuild all of those completely from scratch. Adobe cannot allow that to happen.

I am happy to share my company’s workflow to describe how Premiere graphics currently does not provide solutions where Legacy Titler does.

My commercial video editing facility has been using Adobe Premiere since version 4.1 in 1999. We have an extensive archive of Premiere project files from which we are often requested to restore and edit. There are THOUSANDS of graphics we would have to re-create if legacy titler is lost.
Another job we are frequently required to do (and Legacy Titler does well) is to edit a title and update every instance of that title across multiple sequences and nests. This is not possible in essential graphics.
At the very minimum, the new essential graphics MUST be able to open legacy titles before Legacy Titler is dropped.

This would be extremely helpful when nesting one "Master" sequence in order to create versions (each in their own timeline) with different tag graphics, or varying text overlays.
