As Wes noted, we are looking at many areas for optimization and have made strides in the last few releases already.

We recognize there are still many areas to improve performance and we are investing in appropriate areas.

Threads that are catch-alls are often non-actionable. Please keep giving us specific feedback on what workflows are slow for you.

Technical solutions may not always be as obvious as some people may be suggesting as the application architecture is often very different than people’s conception.

Short answer. Yes, we want to and will make it faster.

    Hello everyone,

my sincere apologies for not updating the status of this request any sooner.

We’ve been working on widening the range of supported systems for the last couple of weeks – and to ensure we get performance right. I’ll have roll-out information for you within the next 4 weeks.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

Awful, awful awful! Got a brand new Mac Pro with Dual Vega GPUs and STILL. What’s worse is that this is a problem that spans across the entire creative suite. Lightroom and premiere are just as laggy and slow in the UI. This makes me wanna switch to final cut, sadly for after effects there’s no alternative.
How can we make adobe move on this?

    What a useless request.
Maybe be a bit more specific? How is adobe supposed to help you with this?
I have an actual Idea: Add VCE Hardware encoding Support to media encoder so that we can put our nice GPUs to work actually.

Why has nobody commented on this? Heck why this has never been implemented?? This is an absolute scandal as it would boost the performance of media encoder INSTANTLY on existing systems.

    Hello everybody!

(This post was co-authored by Tim Kurkoski (After Effects Product Owner), Andrew Cheyne (After Effects Engineering Manager), and Victoria Nece (After Effects Product Manager).)

This thread has been sitting here for quite a while without a response. To start, we want to apologize for that. We haven’t been ignoring you or your feedback – this is just a particularly complex topic. That said, it’s time for us to check in with you, clarify a few things, and give you an idea of what we’re looking at for the future of After Effects, especially when it comes to performance.

To start, we fully understand that you want After Effects to be as fast as it can be – utilizing your computer’s hardware resources to render as fast as possible. Over the last several years, we have been working on the performance of After Effects constantly. Sometimes those performance gains…

I have the same issue, three monitor setup and it‘s freaking out like crazy, I can chose whatever display I want, the Fullscreen playback is always on the same WRONG screen.
I can go into the settings, chose monitor 1, and it shows no Fullscreen at all. Worse, I go back into the settings, and suddenly monitor 3 is selected (even though none of the three is displaying anything).
I just spent AN HOUR on the phone support line, and they refused that it was a bug of premiere, and couldnt help me at all.
In the end, I unplugged and plugged all monitors 5 times and finally it just magically started to display the video on the correct one. Insane!

For me this actually started happening not immediately after the 13.1 update, but after I reset all preferences with shift+alt during the launch of premiere because of another bug.

What computer are u using? I have a Mac Pro 2013 12core. Maybe it has something to do with the tratschen + premiere?

We anticipate resolving this problem in an upcoming release, and I will update this UserVoice item to “Completed” when the new functionality is fully tested and available.

With newer Apple systems, especially those based on the T2 chipset, many previously singular states of the Built-in audio interface are now exposed as completely different virtual devices by MacOS. One used to be able to plug in a pair of headphones and let the OS re-route the output automatically. Now, this either requires a manual change, or utilizing new frameworks for the same functionality.

Thanks for your feedback, and please stay tuned.
