    Hello Bob,

Just looked at it a bit this morning. I see this was functionality that was lost when we moved to the new drop down list for fonts in the character panel (favorite support, search, etc). I see as well, when we select multiple text layers with different fonts, we are still displaying the last assigned/used font instead of a blank box. This will help us narrow down the bug solution.

If you can track down reproduction steps for any other bugs you see related to this, please feel free to add them to this post.

Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention and then follow up with your reproduction steps. I missed seeing the original post back in 2018. At the time we were aware of changes that broke the up down arrow preview functionality and that was fixed in the next release (then recent changes broke it again for 17.0) and we fixed it in 17.0.1. It is never our intention to break old workflows and this can also go in as process to test when modifications are made in this area in the future.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to work on this with us. We as a team greatly appreciate it.

    All the best,
    Jessica

Which version worked the way you would expect with multiple layers selected? I am looking to compare current and previous expected behavior if possible. Thanks!

    Hello Axel,

This is Jessica - a developer from the AE team.

You can currently right click on a guide to input an exact pixel location.

How do you imagine using names/notes on guides? Use cases would help inform how this would be used, implemented, etc.

    Thanks for posting your idea.

    All the best,
    Jessica

    Hello Skye,

You can do a few things by setting custom shortcuts using the Keyboard Shortcuts Editor. Information about that can be found here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/keyboard-shortcuts-reference.html?mv=product&mv2=ae

You can select the shape/mask tool via a built in shortcut: Q (which is meant to cycle through the polygon shapes)f
To cycle through the polygon shapes, you can continue to press Q to cycle forward or shift+Q to cycle backwards.

The tool will become active as whatever you used last on your current selection (shape or mask) or it will be context based on the default for a given selected layer (mask with solid layer selected, shape if shape layer, shape if no layers are selected, etc).

I understand though that you want the ability to toggle back and forth between the mask and shape tool (say when working on a shape layer). We have a list of small (in implementation) future features and I have added your idea to this. Thank you for submitting it!

If there is anything in your post that you think I didn't address - please make an additional comment.

    All the best,
    Jessica

    Hello Sharon,

Is the request to have a previewer similar to how, say in Lightroom, you see a color style on an example image before you then use it on your own image? (i.e. https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-cc/using/edit-photos.html#profile) I imagine in AEs case there would be an example mini video clip that showed the effect in use.

If that is not how you imagine it - could you explain your idea further?

    All the best,
    Jessica

    Hello Marius,

This is Jessica from the AE team. Thank you for taking the time to post this issue on User Voice.

We believe this is related to an issue that occurs on 2011/2012 macs and are looking into a fix.

    Thanks,

    Hello Nathan,

Can you try the font search in photoshop (PS) to see if the behavior is similar or which font is the first font in the search list when you type "sea" in PS?

Might help us narrow down if you have a bad font file or what exactly is going on. A few of us have tried to reproduce this and are unable to at the moment so any additional details we could help.

    All the best,
    Jessica

    Hello Kissaev

The text tool and the brush tool both add two related panels (paragraph and character in the case of text) to the workspace if they aren't already visible and then open one of the related panels if they are stacked together (paragarph in the case of the text tool) for quick access for working with those tools.

How would you prefer to opt out of this behavior? Seems like you would still want it to be workspace specific opt out and not an application wide opt out behavior?

    Hello Colby,

I have not heard of this bug before - would it be possible to make a screen recording and/or pass along a project that demonstrates this behavior?

Thanks for taking the time to post about this behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to the team with your request.

Could you take your screen shot into Photoshop and illustrate what you mean? There is a slightly darker well to the right of the actual panel which is space reserved for a scrollbar if it is needed. Do you mean you would like to see that definition between the two more clearly?

Thank you for reporting this bug. Apologies for the disruption. We have been investigating and I have two suggested workarounds, but first I would like to explain what is happening.

To explain the issue - we have updated a version number for the workspaces in AE which is stored inside your "Adobe After Effects 16.1 Prefs.txt" file. When this version number is mismatched on load we reset all workspaces. This means you can successfully migrate or sync, but once you load AE and this version number doesn't match the new one (due to being a preference file that was pre 16.1) , the workspaces are cleared. The reason for the version number change in the 16.1 release was due to updating all of our predefined workspaces to include a location for the Content Aware Fill Panel.

    Two workarounds:
Version #1: After migrating your settings, before launching AE, modify your "Adobe After Effects 16.1 Prefs.txt" file. Change the number in this line: ["Workspace Preference Section 3"] to a 4. That represents the new version number and on load your original and modified workspaces folders should remain intact.

Version #2: After syncing your workspaces from either the cloud or migrating from a previous version of AE, before relaunching AE, make a copy in a separate location of your ModifiedWorkspaces and OriginalUserWorkspaces folders. Once AE launches once after migration it will alter your preferences file to reflect the workspace update. Move your copied folders back into the AE preferences folder location, and restart After Effects. Your workspaces should now be available inside AE.

Steve, can you elaborate which functionality you are looking for and what your desired priorities would be for them?

We've added some new features to AE guides in the most recent release such as import/export and scripting access, and in a previous version we added a right click context menu for setting guides to specific pixel or fractional positions (i.e. 50.5, 100/2).

My guess is that you might be looking for the new guide layout functionality or the alt drag which flips the orientation of a guide as you are dragging it.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hello D,

While not exactly the workflow you mentioned (copy/paste) we have added the ability to export and import guides between comps, layers, and footage items.

Simply set your guides and go to the menu item: View->Export Guides... to create a .guides file with your current guides, and then view the comp, layer, or footage you would like the guides to be placed on and import the file you just created with View->Import Guides...

This will not delete guides already on that item - so if you only one the new guides, make sure to clear your old guides first View->Clear Guides

Blake - I tried this on my 4k monitor and was unable to reproduce. I also changed my resolution to 2560x1440 and still couldn't repro.

Is this still an issue on the newest release?
