I've noticed that the proportional grid bug causes the grid to be delayed by several seconds before it displays. This could be why for me the grid seemed to appear out of nowhere.

For example, say I accidentally hit the grid keyboard combo thinking it was 'show guides', nothing happened (because of the bug causing a delay), then i correctly hit the 'show guides' combo, guides appear as expected, but then a couple seconds later the grid appears and pinwheels.

The issue I had rolling back my AEP to an earlier version, where it instantly crashes AE2018 is obviously unrelated though. I filed a crash report for that.

Follow up… I just turned the grid on to check if that had the same effect as the problem I was having. It did. Pinwheeling like crazy, had to force quit.

Now I'm curious if yesterday I did indeed accidentally turn the grid on with the keyboard shortcut, which I sometimes do accidentally when wanting to display guides (the keys are right next to each other). Hmm. I'll pay extra close attention going forward, and if it happens without the grid I'll let you know. Thanks!

Hi Victoria. I'm afraid I did not have the grid visible at the times it happened. I'm gonna work on the same aep today, with the same 200GB+ free, and then switch back to only 50GB free and see if the issue returns. It's the only thing I can think of right now, because after I cleared up some space last night the problem went away.

It would help distinguish chunks of animation, and give clarity to the beginning and end of repeating sections.

Check the mockup, and for comparison's sake there's a screenshot of how it looks *without* color coding.

As someone that works in highly complex comps every day, there's no doubt in my mind that custom keyframe colors would be just as valuable as custom layer colors. It would be one of those "how did we ever live without this?" features.
