This one! Sometimes when doing blurry objects/out-of-focus tracking you need to have camera lens blur on to see if the track works, but after that it's fairly trivial to render it out again and again. Would be great to have a panel/window where you could customize what effects you want to have "off until render". Match Grain, Lens Blur and Heavy plugins from Red Giant etc. This would literally save my life...

Watching RAM previews in full screen is great and something I use all the time. Except when I turn off the full screen preview After Effects has to reload the entire UI. I usually work with quite a bit of Comps open (maybe 30+). Each time after coming out of the full screen preview the UI becomes unresponsive and then loads up and opens all the comps again and then brings me back to my normal layout.
I know there are options to have mercury playback on a separate screen, which would most likely solve this problem - but you can do full-screen previews in Premiere and Davinci Resolve without it reloading the UI each time.

We're very excited to announce that Selectable Track Mattes are now available in the public beta builds! Selectable Track Mattes work just like parenting, allowing you to pick any layer in your composition, no matter where it sits in the layer stack, as a Track Matte source for any other layer.
You'll need to update to version 23.0 build 8 or later to try it out. Learn more here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-discussions/feature-focus-selectable-track-matte-layers-have-arrived/td-p/13110013

Make a new effect called "Track Matte" which can be applied to the layer. Or fix "Set Matte" to have that option!

There is a great plugin on AEScripts called RenderHog which does exactly this. It works really well and even has the function of assigning replacement effects for the more heavy effects. I.e. you can have a 20px Lens Blur replaced by a 20px Fast Blur which then gets swapped again while you export. The only downside is you have to get used to it and make sure you enable the fx before you export.
