    Hi Clifford,

Thank you very much for this request! For simplicity, I have merged your second suggestion with this first one to keep all the information in one place.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We are able to reproduce a similar problem here with the Link Focus Distance to Layer command, Create Orbit Null, and increasing the Scale of the Orbit Null; the focus is no longer aligned with the target layer in this case. However, this doesn't seem to line up with your statement about changing the expression engine to Legacy ExtendScript because the same problem exists when using either expression engine. Would you be able to post a project file that demonstrates the case where switching expression engine fixes the issue?

Thanks again for filing this bug,

    Thanks for filing this request.

The way both expressions and master properties work (as well as properties exposed in Motion Graphics templates, which use the same mechanism as master properties), this would be difficult to implement in the example you describe.

Expressions and master properties are both overrides of the property’s original value, the same way that keyframes override a single, static value.

In the case you describe, you are using an expression to override the value of a property. It may use the keyframes of the property to calculate the ultimate value, but in the end it’s the expression that determines what value the property uses.

Once used as a master property, any changes to the master property are an additional override on that property, which supersedes both the expression and the keyframes. You can see how this gets complex very quickly. When we designed master properties, we had…

    Hi Tom,

Thank you for filing this report. Do you still experience this jump when dragging in the latest version of After Effects ( 17.7 )? There have been improvements in how AE handles cases like the one you've described, but I'm not 100% the improvement would have covered your specific case. What OS are you using?

Thanks very much for any additional information,

    Hi lakpo,

Thank you for reporting this issue. I see what you're experiencing in the .mp4 ( thank you for that! ) but we are unable to reproduce it in the latest builds of After Effects 17.7. The updating of property references in the ADBE Text Expressible Amount property is working as expected. Are you still experiencing this in the latest builds?

Thank you for any further information,

    Hi Brett,

Thank you for that additional info, it does help narrow things down a bit. When you say "1% of the timeline", are you setting the Stretch parameter in the Timeline to 1% or something else? Also, what are your system specs ( OS version, hardware, etc )?

Thanks for helping us get to the bottom of this.

    Cheers,

    Hi Brett,

Thank you for reporting this issue. When is this error being shown to you? Could you please provide the steps needed to trigger the error or a project which produces it when opened/modified/rendered/etc?

Thanks very much for any additional information,

    Hi Corey,

Thank you for those details. Animating multilayer PSDs should not cause preview playback to stop working; I'm able to do so in AE on our testing machines without a problem. If you are unable to playback at all after caching frames, it sounds like some other factor is preventing playback. Would you mind posting the specs of the system you're working with? OS version, hardware, RAM, GPU, etc. If possible, a screen recording would be extremely helpful so we can see the problem in action.

One thing to try if you are using Windows and getting no playback at all: toggle the Default Output in Preferences > Audio Hardware. There is a known issue where playback is prevented when an audio device is changed, which can be caused by a number of actions like plugging in headphones, a BlueTooth device connecting, or an HDMI monitor turning on and off.

    Cheers,

    Hi Sophie,

Thank you for filing this report. It sounds like the search in the Timeline is hiding the layers whose names don't contain "color" and don't have any properties containing "color". If you clear the search field with backspace or the "X" icon on the right, are all the layers shown again?

    Thanks for any further information,

    Hi Jesse,

Thank you for reporting this issue, we are able to reproduce it as well and will be filing an internal bug ticket to investigate.

A workaround for the next time this happens: if you use the shortcut ⌘ + \ to make After Effects full-screen, this should bring the topbar back into view. Sometimes you may need to use the shortcut twice, but it should still resolve the problem.

Thanks again for filing this bug,

    Hi Andy,

Thank you for reporting this bug. Are you still experiencing it in the latest version of After Effects ( 17.7 )? If so, would you be able to get a screen recording of it in action?

We are aware of a similar crash which was an issue in previous versions, but it was fixed in AE 17.1 so I am surprised to see it happening for you in version 17.5.1. There is a possibility that OS changes may have caused it to rear its head again.

    Thanks for any additional information,

    Hi Joséphine,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Are you still experiencing it in the latest version of After Effects ( 17.7 )? We have had other similar reports resolved via changes to the GPU drivers; sometimes an upgrade is needed and other times a downgrade to a previous driver with better compatibility. What are your system specs and OS version?

Thanks very much for any additional information,

    Hi Mara,

Thank you for filing this bug report, sorry to see you're experiencing this problem. Could you provide more detail about when you are seeing this error? Steps to follow or a screen recording would help us to get a better understanding of the issue. As there is a possibility the bug is system-specific, could you also post your system specs as well as the OS version and language?

Thanks very much for any additional information,

    Hey Dudes,

Thank you for filing this bug report. Sorry to see you aren't getting the desired result from Roto Brush.

In your workflow, did you scrub through your footage after rotoscoping the initial frame to confirm the propagated result before using Freeze? A typical use of Roto Brush usually goes as follows:

    1. Create a selection with the Roto Brush tool in the Layer window.
    2. Move forward and/or backward a few frames to see the rotoscoped result as the subject's shape or location changes in the scene.
    3. Make additional correction strokes to add or remove parts of the result as needed. These strokes inform Roto Brush how to continue propagating the matte through the shot.
    4. Once you've confirmed that the result throughout the shot is satisfactory, use Freeze to lock the matte in place.
    5. Further refine the frozen matte with the controls in the Roto Brush effect.

Check out this great tutorial from notiansans for a more in-depth walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv_p_fzudM4

Please let us know if you still seeing different results with Freeze after you've confirmed the matte throughout the shot prior to freezing. A screen recording of the issue in progress would be ideal for getting the issue diagnosed. System specs and any problematic footage would be helpful as well.

    Thanks for any further information,

    Hi Christian,

Thanks very much for this feature request. The team will be evaluating it for possible inclusion in a future update.

In the meanwhile, a technique to accomplish this in the current version of After Effects is to add an expression to the Position property of the layer with a hard-coded value e.g. [960,540] or whatever the desired locked Position should be. Then the layer will not move around when clicked in the Composition panel, but you can still edit masks, effects, etc. The same would work for Scale, Rotation, or any other property which allows expressions.

    Cheers,

    Hi Todd,

In the Libraries panel inside After Effects, you can click the downward arrow in the search field to see options for searching Adobe Stock instead of searching within your libraries; see the attached screenshot. This option will only be available from within a library, so you would need to select an existing library or create a new one before searching Adobe Stock and adding stock assets.

    Hi Dave,

Thank you for filing this report. Are you still experiencing this issue in the latest versions of After Effects and Premiere ( versions 17.7 and 14.9 respectively )?

If the issue is still occurring, the application logs from Warp Stabilizer would be helpful for us to see what might be going wrong. These logs can be created by turning on Help > Enable Logging. After using Warp Stabilizer, navigate to the Preference folder ( Preferences > General > Reveal in Finder/Explorer ) and look in the "logs" folder for "AnalysisSelfLink Log.txt".

Is the inability to copy/paste between After Effects and Premiere Pro also still occurring in the latest versions?

Thanks very much for any additional information,
    - John, After Effects Engineering Team

    Hi Thijs,

Thank you for reporting this issue. A potential fix has been made available in the latest Beta builds ( as of build 18.0.0.25 ). If you have a chance, would you mind retrying your repro steps in the latest Beta to confirm the fix?

    Thanks very much,

    Hi there,

Thank you for reporting these issues, sorry to see you're experiencing frustration working with Text layers. We unfortunately aren't able to reproduce the same issues here using the latest AE version ( 17.7 ) in order to diagnose what is going wrong. Would you be able to create a short screen recording of each issue as it occurs? Also, are these only with a specific typeface?

Thanks very much for any additional information,
