    Hi Joe,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would you be able to list the steps used to cook the previous version if you don't clear the cache? Do you experience this while rendering from the Render Queue or from AME? And what are your systems specs?

Thanks very much for any additional information,
    - John, After Effects Engineering Team

    Hi Jakub,

Thank you for reporting this bug, that definitely sounds frustrating. We are aware of a similar issue with Premiere sequences used in the After Effects' Timeline, do you have any Premiere sequences in your project? Does the issue show up in the every project or only certain projects?

If possible, a screen recording of After Effects showing the buggy behavior would be the best for us to diagnose what is going wrong.

Thanks so much for any additional information,
    - John, After Effects Engineering Team

    Hi Dan,
Thank you for reporting this issue. We can also reproduce it and have it filed internally as DVAAE-4216677. When a fix is available in the Beta builds, this post will be updated.

Thanks again for reporting this issue,

    Hi Paula,

Thank you for reporting this issue. The engineering team is aware of this problem and it unfortunately affects importing the same JPEGs into Premiere as well.

If a fix becomes available, it will first be available in the Beta builds, which are available in the CC app in the Beta Apps section. Inside After Effects, click on the "What's New" flash in the upper-right to see the fixes which have recently been made.

Thank you again for reporting this issue,
    - John, After Effects Engineering

    Hi Cameron,

Thank you for making this report, you definitely should not be seeing crashes in AE 17.1.3 every 10 minutes. We are not aware of any specific issues causing such frequent crashes in that version of AE.

If possible, would you be willing to answer a few questions about your setup and the crashes you're experiencing?

    - What version of macOS are you using?
    - What are the full system specs on your iMac? GPU, model, etc
    - Is the crash always triggered by a specific action?
    - When the crash occurs, does the Crash Reporter show up? If so, have you submitted these crash reports?
    - Do crashes occur in only one specific project or in all projects?

You mentioned copy/pasting timecode; what program are you copying the text from? There is a possibility that a special character in the text might be contributing to the crashes.

Thank you so much for any additional information, I hope we are able to get to the bottom of these crashes.

    Hi Qing Li,

Thank you for submitting this feature request. The Roto Brush tool can paint selection strokes along straight lines by holding Shift and clicking without dragging; this will draw a straight stroke from the end of your previous stroke to current brush position.

Keep in mind that the Roto Brush selection detects edges and does not take the specific shape of a selection into account ( because this shape could change over time due to movement, perspective change, etc). Be sure to keep as many strokes as possible in the middle of the selection and do not draw around the outline unless necessary.

If the subject or object you are selecting with Roto Brush is rigid within the shot, you might also try playing with the stroke duration in the Timeline, possibly keyframing the position of the stroke to give Roto Brush the same starting selection each time.

    Cheers,
    - John, After Effects Engineering

    Hi Marc,

Thank you for reporting this issue. That is definitely an annoying bug. How often do you see this occurring? I notice from the screengrab that you have the compositions docked at the top of the window ( or possibly used tilde to maximize the Timeline ), do you dock your panel this way often and does the spacing issue occur if you have the Timelines docked elsewhere?

If possible, a screen recording of how the extra spacing is created would be the most helpful as we try to find the fix for it.

Thanks again for reporting and for any additional information.

    Hi Julio,

Thank you for reporting this bug. This feature was not intentionally removed; the fix which restores the double-click functionality is now available in the After Effects (Beta) build in the CC app. Please try out the Beta builds and let us know if the issue is also showing as fixed for you.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Ardi,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would you mind providing more details about your system? What OS and what version of After Effects is showing this problem?

Something you might try: see if switching the Default Output in Preferences > Audio Hardware when you are not able to playback will allow the Space/Numpad 0 to work again.

    Thanks,

    Hi Ryan,

As Steve already pointed on, adding properties ( including expression controls ) to the Essential Graphics panel also makes them available as Master Properties on instances of that composition as a pre-comp. You can also then "push" new values into the original comp ( and all unmodified instances ) with the Push button next to the Master Properties, or "pull" the original value if you've changed it with the Pull button. Lots of possibilities!

School of Motion did a great write-up on Master Properties as well: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/master-properties-after-effects/

    Hi Jan,

Thank you for filing this request! There is an existing functionality for linking all properties of an effect in the Edit menu > Copy with Property Links. This command works for many different types of selections, from layers to individual effects, and even to individual selected properties.

As an example, I'll often modify an effect to taste, then tap "UU" in the Timeline to reveal what I've modified, select only those properties, then Edit > Copy with Property Links. Pasting to another layer at this point will paste the entire effect, but only the selected properties will be linked with expressions to the original effect.

    Cheers,

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for reporting this bug. This is a known issue with Dropdown Menus used as Master Properties. There is not a good workaround at this time, unfortunately, other than finalizing the Dropdown Menu items before keyframing any Master Property instances.

The team will be taking a look at this issue. Thank you for your patience and apologies for any frustrations this has caused.

    Thanks,
    - John, After Effects Engineering

    Hi Ignatz,

Thank you for reporting this issue. We've seen this behavior reported by other customers as well, but we've been unable to reproduce it on our end to see about addressing the slowdown. Would you be able to provide more information about the sluggishness you're experience when showing waveforms?

    - What version of After Effects are you using?
    - Are you using Windows or macOS?
    - What GPU does your machine use?

When you make waveforms visible and the timeline becomes choppy:
    - Do you have "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels" enabled in Preferences > Display?
    - What is the length of the composition and the audio file?

Thanks very much for any additional information you can provide. Every bit helps us to get a better handle on the problem and potential solutions.

    Thanks again,
    - John, After Effects Engineering Team

    Hi Ariel,

Thank you for reporting this issue. If you could give a bit more information on your setup, it would be very helpful to us in figuring out what is causing the crash in Roto Brush.

    - What version of After Effects are you using?
    - Are you on macOS or Windows?
    - When the crash occurs, have you submitted the crash report through the Crash Reporter?

I hope we are able to discover what is causing the crash on your system. Thanks very much for any additional information you can give,
    - John, After Effects Engineering Team

    Hi Rachael,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Could you be more specific as to which offset text function is not working for you? Was it working in a previous version of After Effects?

For the AE team to investigate what is going on, it would be ideal if you could post a link to an After Effects project which demonstrates the issue.

Thanks very much for any further information,
    - John, After Effects Engineering

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would you mind posting the specs of the system where you are seeing this crash? OS, GPU, etc. Also, have you reported the issue to Video Co-Pilot ( the developer of Element 3D )?

Thanks in advance for any additional information,
    - John, After Effects Engineering
