    Hello everybody!

(This post was co-authored by Tim Kurkoski (After Effects Product Owner), Andrew Cheyne (After Effects Engineering Manager), and Victoria Nece (After Effects Product Manager).)

This thread has been sitting here for quite a while without a response. To start, we want to apologize for that. We haven’t been ignoring you or your feedback – this is just a particularly complex topic. That said, it’s time for us to check in with you, clarify a few things, and give you an idea of what we’re looking at for the future of After Effects, especially when it comes to performance.

To start, we fully understand that you want After Effects to be as fast as it can be – utilizing your computer’s hardware resources to render as fast as possible. Over the last several years, we have been working on the performance of After Effects constantly. Sometimes those performance gains…

I'm sure they do care, but like Apple they have turned their attention to a different market. All the video-related talk at Max seemed to focus on the YouTube market. That's where the money is and it explains Rush, which doesn't at all help professionals.

This would be extremely helpful. I have had projects where I constantly got the offline message but was unable to find the offending clip anywhere. Maybe it was a frame of offline audio somewhere but it was impossible to tell as no 'media offline banners' appeared in the export so it can't have been offline video.

If I understand you correctly, the easiest way to do this is with the rate stretch tool (R). You just drag the clip out and it adjusts the speed until it is long enough to fill the desired duration.

A general overhaul of Watch Folder functionality would be good. It's got great potential but there are some limitations. Individual folders for the source video isn't really necessary - it would be good to have the option to have the files moved to a folder of your choice or just put them in one 'source' folder.

There also seems to be no way to edit the watch folder location or duplicate the watch folder setting and change the location so that you could have folders for individual projects without the need to set up everything again. For instance, I would export in a high-bitrate version that is then converted to a youtube preset and a 480p preview format so that final checks can be made and the preview version is uploaded to frame.io if there are issues or final changes to be commented on, while the youtube format is uploaded for delivery to the client.
