    Found it:
    https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects/suggestions/44380146-multiframe-rendering-checkbox-in-preview-panel
He has a different problem but a MFR UI switch would also be a solution for his problem.
Come on, it's like 30minutes coding, the icon can just be HFR, no picture :)

And when I'm done and reopen a project without that setting, AE gets back to the memory buffer - which remembers the previously used buffer directories, not the hardcoded ones that were used by the just closed project :)

I'm still runnind PS AE and Premiere on Microsoft Surface Pro2 - you can't get a worse machine then that, but they run fine. Slow but no errors. What exactly is happening in your laptop?

Can we please have a separate keyframe property for mask feather - the one done with the mask feather tool? Right now the feather values are stored in the mask property keyframes, but this is really bad for workflow - I'don't know a single roto artist that does feathering while doing the shapes - it's always shapes first, for the entire shot, and then a second pass to do the feathering. The way it works now is I have to set the feather in each mask keyframe that was done without a feather, which is counter intuitive since feathers require much less keyframes than shapes - very often they don't require keyframes at all. But even in that case we can't edit the feathering after the fact because now it's stored in every single mask keyframe - and we sometimes have a couple hundred keyframes for the mask shape. Basically right now if you don't get your feathering perfect while you're doing shapes, then you'll spend as much time correcting it as it took to do the shapes in the first place - it sucks :/

    I second it.
It's not point tracking though, just the mask face tracking.
Either use the tracker from Character animator, or at the very least fix the one in AE.
    It gets slower over time.
I start tracking the shot with 4 maybe 5 frames per second, by the time I get to frame 1000 I'm already down to 3seconds per frame. That's 12 times slowdown in 1000 frames!!!!.
The actual number of tracked frames (keys) seams to matter.
The solution is to divide the clip into several layers and track different parts in different layers, so 0-1000 on layer 1, 1001-2000 on layer 2, 2001-3000 on layer 3.
Each layer holds only 1000 keys at max so it kinda works.
Then you have to copy paste the keys back to layer one which is also very slow, but takes a lot less time than finishing tracking all 3000 frames on layer 1 :/

    This is very unique.
Create a composition, let's say HD.
    Switch to 32bit mode.
Turn the composition viewer exposure control on - set the little exposure icon to any value, lets say +1.
Now this happens at different zoom levels depending on composition resolution, but if you're at 50% now if you press space to preview the comp, it works. You press space again and it stops.
But zoom in to 100% maybe 200% and press space.
The preview starts but you can't stop it. Pressing space, esc or anything other doesn't work.
    Here are the requirements:
    - 32bit
    - viewer exposure turned on
    - space preview
    - a certain zoom level
Changing any of these "fixes" the problem.
You can switch to 16bit, turn exposure off, launch the Shift+Space preview or Numpad0 preview or just zoom out. Any of these will make the comp work properly again.
I was not able to reproduce it in AE 2019.
I have seen the "hand" cursor a couple of times so it seems it's something with the keyboard event. AE doesn't register the space ever being let go, that's why no other keys are working.

Not sure why you assume AE is missing only a few megabytes of memory, could be a lot more.
That said a new behaviour would be a nice addition.
How about, reducing the bit depth of the project to 8bit, or stepping down the resolution of the viewer, after clicking OK on the out of memory dialog.
These would immediately halve the memory requirements for the given frame.
