Hi Taran and everyone subscribed to the thread,

first of all: thanks for the incredibly detailed suggestion and the great conversation in the comments. While making such a change for the playback engine has a ton of implications and therefore isn’t done ad hoc, we’re certainly going to create a POC for it and will evaluate if there’s a way to put this into a production build for a test drive in an upcoming beta version.

    I’ll keep you posted.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

While we are not considering removing this long-requested feature, we hear you on the room for improvement.

    Thank you for your feedback

    Hi Florian,

while this is a rather critical and large change to the way the application works and will take some time to be implemented, we’ll definitely put this under consideration.

There’s more than one solution to this problem, though.

A good short term opportunity is to use the parallel install feature in the creative cloud application. It should help to at least take away some of the issues working with people on a different version of the application.

Another thing worth keeping in mind is that you can install CC on two different machines (if you’re on an individual subscription). That gives you additional opportunity to keep different versions around for compatibility reasons.

I’ll update the status of this request as we move along.

If you have further thoughts on this matter, please keep them coming.

    Thanks
    Patrick

As Wes noted, we are looking at many areas for optimization and have made strides in the last few releases already.

We recognize there are still many areas to improve performance and we are investing in appropriate areas.

Threads that are catch-alls are often non-actionable. Please keep giving us specific feedback on what workflows are slow for you.

Technical solutions may not always be as obvious as some people may be suggesting as the application architecture is often very different than people’s conception.

Short answer. Yes, we want to and will make it faster.

As Jim Simon noted, there is already a request for this so certainly upvote that request.

This is an area we are looking into for future versions to make auto-save more reliable and out of the way.

Indeed a very reasonable thing to ask for. We’ll have to look into the interaction model and where to place this inside Premiere Pro, therefore it’s not a “drop-in tech transplant” – as soon as we’ve got something worth discussing or testing, I’ll update the status to this request.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

My original link showing the Adobe Forum posts going back to 2016 reporting this problem no longer works in my original Bug Report post above because of site changes.

@Volker Agreed! The work-around I use for now is this free Premiere Project Downgrader:

    I hope it helps you.

Currently, Premiere uses the Lanczos method for intrinsic scale and rotation. Lanczos is an exceptionally high-quality interpolation method which generally yields better results than bicubic, bilinear or nearest neighbor. From reading the forum post, it seems that up-scaling is the real issue here. I suggest looking at the Detail-Preserving Upscale effect in After Effects. It does a really good job and gives you some parameters to tweak to fit your specific content.
