This still requires a click to select or a right-click to get the context menu to close the gap, so it's lacking the functionality Dave described in the original post which is to park the playhead on a single gap without selecting or clicking anything and remove only that gap with a key command.

I work as much as possible with only the keyboard, the mouse and clicking/selecting is much slower than a key command (for me and many others, we all work differently of course). The behavior requested in the original post can be viewed here --- key command to move to gap, key command to close gap, no selection or clicks necessary:

    Can we have this?

    Thanks Nate, that's somewhat helpful.

Still, I think the reason people keep asking for this to be improved is because in FCP7 this feature worked very efficiently without having to select anything -- you simply parked the playhead over a gap and pressed the command and that gap was closed instantly. Having to take the additional step to select the clips makes this feature function pretty much the same as ripple delete.

So my suggestion would be to make the default action for the close gap command "close the unselected gap that the playhead is parked on", and then maybe add an option to "close all gaps" (or maybe if you select a group of clips, or select all THEN it closes all gaps).

The "close all gaps" option is something I think most editors would use much less frequently than the "close the gap I'm looking at right now".

Currently the "Sequence > Close Gap" command closes every single gap in a sequence, not just the one under the playhead. Would be nice to have it default to the gap the playhead is on, with an option to close all gaps.

    Thanks for your reply Mike!

I understand the issue that the peak files are drawn for audio clips on import and a nest containing multiple mixed audio clips doesn't have a peak file generated for it. I guess what I'm asking is for the software to generate a peak file for nests that IS representative of their contents.

Maybe when the render audio command is performed Premiere could generate peak files for nests in the sequence and/or project?

To clarify, individual clips inside a nest or subsequence display waveforms just fine. The feature I'm looking for is for nest and subsequences that are edited into another sequence to display a waveform for their audio contents, instead of having to step in to the nest to examine waveforms.

Audio is rendered both inside and outside of the nest, still no waveforms.

Nope, that doesn't accurately describe how the software behaves in this particular instance. If selecting the clip is an action like nudging a clip is an action then they should both be Undone in reverse of the chronological order in which they were performed -- but that's currently not the case.

An example you can try for yourself, actions numbered chronologically:

    1. Track select forward a bunch of clips
    2. Nudge selected clips backward 5 frames
    3. Nudge selected clips backward 5 more frames
    4. Press Command-Z to undo the second nudge (Action 3)

At this point, Action 3 is undone and Action 1 (selecting the clips) is ALSO undone as all the clips are deselected. If you press command-z again, it undoes Action 2 --- so undo order is actually 3 and 1 at the same time, then 2.

The problem with this as I mentioned in my original comment is that if you have to perform an undo command while working with a complex selection (i.e. multiple layers of video, vfx, dialogue, sound effects, and music all with different start and end points in the timeline), a single mistake means you have to perform your action 1, making the selection, again.
