Hi Taran and everyone subscribed to the thread,
first of all: thanks for the incredibly detailed suggestion and the great conversation in the comments. While making such a change for the playback engine has a ton of implications and therefore isn’t done ad hoc, we’re certainly going to create a POC for it and will evaluate if there’s a way to put this into a production build for a test drive in an upcoming beta version.
I’ll keep you posted.
Cheers,

I'm having the same issues but i suspect it is something to do with the Canon implementation of the HEVC codec.
HEVC files from the Panasonic GH5 and the DJI MAVIC Pro2 both play fine even at 4K full quality.
I can't get any usable playback with the XF-705 files... hopefully Adobe can make this better?Scott Moore supported this idea ·

Premiere also won't let you create Proxies with the Canon HEVC-MXF files (something about the audio channels/format) but if you change the file extension to .MPG it does.
So seems to be a limitation with Adobes implementation with the HEVC-MXF format. Please fix!

Agreed!!!
I made some proxies in premiere, moved the project to another computer and now they won't relink citing audio channel differences... these are Proxy files that Premiere made so i assumed it would work right?
