Would love to upvote this idea multiple times! What's really annoying is that Premiere doesn't even properly update footage if you delete it, then re-import it. For example, a few minutes ago I did this:
    1. Realise that some footage in one of my bins is 1280x720
    2. Download a 1920x1080 version of that same footage, with the same filename, and overwrite the previous file
    3. Delete that footage from Premiere (Premiere was still saying it's 1280x720)
    4. Drag the new, 1920x1080 file into Premiere
    5. Premiere still thinks it's 1280x720, even though that file no longer exists
    6. Save the project, quit Premiere, reload Premiere, reload the project....Premiere now realises it's 1920x1080.

If I'd done the same thing in AE, a simple right-click > "Reload Footage" would be all that's required. Can we PLEASE have this in Premiere too?

You wouldn't have thought it'd be that hard for Adobe to copy the code from AE to PPro for the 'reload footage' feature.

I can fully understand that when pasting a layer or an effect from comp A to comp B would cause the pasted effect to reset the layer map, because Comp B might not have that layer in it. But it'd be wonderful if AE could at least try to reference that layer. For example:

I have Comp A, with a Camera Lens Blur effect on a layer. The blur is controlled by a layer map, called "Blur Map".
I then copy & paste the layer "Blur Map" from Comp A to Comp B.
I then copy & paste the Camera Lens Blur effect from a layer in Comp A to Comp B.
The effect "forgets" that it should be referencing the "Blur Map" layer.

It'd be wonderful, when pasting an effect with a layer map reference, if AE could:
    1. Try to reconnect the layer
    2. Pop up an alert saying that it has/hasn't managed to reconnect the layer. (Or maybe something along the lines of the orange Expression Error bar that appears in the comp viewer).

No movement on this in over 3 years...
The technology is right there in After Effects - please, Adobe, just copy the code from AE and paste it into PPro!

I'm very surprised this does not have hundreds of upvotes - it seems like such an obvious thing! And surely it would make the AI-powered auto-transcriber's job a whole lot easier if it had a script to refer to!

I absolutely agree. I came here to suggest exactly this feature, and see that other people have already suggested it. Having an "overlap" control would be ideal so as well as the duration of the fade (as we have now), we can set how much of that overlaps the dialogue. I love the auto-ducking feature, but always have to go in and tweak the keyframes afterwards - always in exactly the same way, to increase the overlap.

Although it's not a true variable width thing, I assume you're aware of the new-ish Taper and Wave things for a stroke? Might help a bit maybe.

I came here to request that holding the shift key also constrains movement of points in the curves to horizontal as well as (as it is currently) vertical movement, and saw it's already been requested, albeit over 3 years ago.

I 3rd this! I requested this many years ago, but not much has happened, evidently.

Yes - absolutely this. It could be an option in the Prefs > Previews section to have a guide layer render/not render during a preview.

I requested this exact idea many years ago! Maybe it could be called 'render-only layer'.
