- Linking subclips to the master clip. Why not, PP?
I have not had good experiences with subclips in PP - so learnt not to use them. (They do match back to the source though? Not sure if that is what you meant). I use subclips extensively in Avid.
- A dedicated "fit-to-fill" button. It is too difficult now.
Agreed. Although I don't use that much even in Avid. Presume you know that you have to have 'Settings|Timeline - fit clip dialogue' enabled to do a fit to fill?
- The ability to put slices on empty sections of the timeline. Avid allowed you to slice up an empty track while playing the timeline. I used this often to mark beats of music or a voice track. This allowed me to quickly fill in the sequence without constantly resetting "ins" and "outs."
Pretty sure that PP is never going to let filler 'exist' - hence no dissolves that overlap it, or adding effects to it. Dropping adjustment or transparent layer in may help you?
- One annoyance: adding a marker to a clip or sequence makes the view window shrink a bit. Since I often edit on-the-go with a laptop losing even a small amount of screen space is a bad thing.
Yep. Annoying even on bigger screens.

Well this is mighty popular request... barely needs visual idea of how Avid does it. But anyway... https://www.dropbox.com/s/emlzuqm4679mc1f/PP_Adjust_clip_gain_like_Avid_H.264.mp4?dl=0

Here's the current workflow (obvs could make it easier with polywav / adaptive tracks in this instance)
