I'm very excited to announce that keyframe color labels, along with a new design for keyframe selection, are now available in public beta!
You'll need to update to version 22.5.0 Build 18 or later to get access. Learn more here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-discussions/welcome-to-keyframe-color-labels-in-ae/td-p/12927209
Thank you for all your input. Please give the beta a try and let us know how it's working for you.

If you do a lot of heavy masking work, you could look at investing in a graphics tablet. They offer significantly more comfort and precision for doing pixel pushing. I've had one for years, and don't actually draw anything, but whenever I need to do a masking grind, I always hook it up.

Thanks for all the feedback so far.
It is one of many areas we are looking into.

Depends on the size of the tablet. Small tablets are not very useful here, but a medium or large tablet is very well suited for it. Furthermore, Wacoms have a precision toggle which increases the movement precision ten-fold with a press of a button.
