Very well said. Agree with everything here. It feels like nobody involved in designing this workflow has ever had to actually use it.

I would urge anyone on this page, particularly Adobe people, to check out captioning in Resolve. It works brilliantly. Please, just copy it.

I've got to the point where I now do my final captioning in Resolve rather than Premiere and it is so much less stressful.

Thanks again for the feedback. We have made sure to have created items in our database for all actionable items. We are hoping you will be pleased by some of the changes we have made in future releases. Please continue to engage with us.

Note that in the future, while this list is awesome, it is much easier for us to change status on completed items if they are single entry.

We may close this one eventually but will keep the other individually tracked items open with status

Just so we're all clear... Adobe is a company with a revenue of $9 billion. Premiere has had the option to create open captions since 2015. It's now almost 2020 and they still haven't managed to find the resources to actually make captioning fully functional.

And just to re-iterate, this list isn't even a complete list of everything that is wrong with captions. There are MANY other problems in terms of stability and general functionality.

Avid and Blackmagic are both doing this far better with far fewer resources.

Adobe: just start again with captioning. This implementation is a complete and utter disaster.

All of these (and plenty more) bugs aside, the fact that subtitles exist as a single piece of media rather than as clips that can be easily edited is a design flaw. Seriously, just copy what Blackmagic are doing in Resolve because it works brilliantly.

This feature already exists (and has done for as long as I can remember). You're just doing it slightly wrong.

When you want to deselect multiple clips, hold shift and drag across the selected clips - this is what you're already doing but there's a crucial next step. Before releasing the mouse button, drag your curser away from the currently selected clips to an empty part of your timeline. This will deselect them.

Originally posted in early August, and despite various Premiere and Blackmagic driver updates this issue still hasn't been addressed. All works perfectly in CC2018 so this surely has to be a CC2019 bug.

Nice idea. It's perhaps worth pointing out that various switchers and third party tools do already provide this fuctionality. The Blackmagic ATEM switcher has a way to do this I believe.
