    Hello everybody!

(This post was co-authored by Tim Kurkoski (After Effects Product Owner), Andrew Cheyne (After Effects Engineering Manager), and Victoria Nece (After Effects Product Manager).)

This thread has been sitting here for quite a while without a response. To start, we want to apologize for that. We haven’t been ignoring you or your feedback – this is just a particularly complex topic. That said, it’s time for us to check in with you, clarify a few things, and give you an idea of what we’re looking at for the future of After Effects, especially when it comes to performance.

To start, we fully understand that you want After Effects to be as fast as it can be – utilizing your computer’s hardware resources to render as fast as possible. Over the last several years, we have been working on the performance of After Effects constantly. Sometimes those performance gains…

@Daniele Ciraolo After Effects GPU acceleration already works on Macs - it uses the Metal framework. In the current release, all of the things that are accelerated on PCs with NVIDIA cards also works on Macs with AMD cards. Fractal Noise, one of dozens of effects that's GPU accelerated is a fun one to play with.

For those who haven't read them, the emails Adobe is sending out are saying that we could be liable to action by third parties. This looks an awful lot like Adobe is in some sort of legal trouble; this isn't a decision they're making, but something that's being forced on them.

Chris, if you want a Nuke competitor, try Fusion. It's very similar, but at a much better price point. :)

I would LOVE to be able to control this with type animators!

I am someone who uses the time stretch option with some frequency and I'd be perfectly fine if that moved to control/command instead of alt/opt. Sure, it'll be annoying for a bit, but I'll get used to it. And, heck, roving keyframes (ctrl+clicking) kinda feel like time stretching in a way, so it fits pretty well.
Copying keyframes while holding alt is something I can totally get behind - especially if it works on multiple layers simultaneously.

There is a transform effect you can apply. Does that do what you would like?

@tatia rosenthal - you can copy and paste mask paths to shape paths and the other way around too. You just select the path in the timeline panel, hit ctrl+c (or cmd+c on Mac) to copy it, then select the other path value in the timeline and hit ctrl+v (or cmd+v on Mac) to paste it.

This would be better to ask in the After Effects forum as this isn't a bug report or feature request. https://forums.adobe.com/community/aftereffects_general_discussion

That said, for After Effects to use GPU acceleration, there must be a dedicated GPU.
