@Soren Laulainen that fixed it for me!

I'm still getting this in 22.3

I created a custom template, and that worked fine, but then I realized I needed to change it. Changed it, saved it to a new preset, set as default, and now every single time it defaults to an old preset that no longer exists.

    All,

first of all I wanted to thank everyone for making this a productive conversation over the last couple of days.

As several people responded to my comment about keeping the tone civilised, I need to dwell on that for a minute. Please hear me out, this is important to everyone on my crew and I hope it will be to you.

Saying that we shouldn't be surprised when things get heated is very problematic in my opinion. How do you expect a junior person on my team to respond to a technical question when it is combined with something that can easily be described as hate speech? How do you think we can actually come together on actual issues when there's already the assumption that we're a big faceless corporation, not even listening to our customers?

People on my team have received threats. I've been there over the years,…

If we've opened a section, leave it open. However, really, the whole export interface should be customizable the way the edit tab is. Give us the same workspace functionality the rest of the app uses. Let us move sections around. Let us resize things. Let us undock panels if we want, or even let the entire export interface be undocked. With enough customizability, people would even be able to recreate the old interface if they so wanted.

Beyond that, I think some work needs to be done to better organize presets. If there's a ton of presets you use, the current way things work is not optimal. While I agree there will often be scenarios where it's simpler to just select a preset, which selects the exporter for you, sometimes it would be beneficial to filter presets by a particular exporter. This is especially true when many presets have similar names, but apply to different exporters.

I wasn't even able to save a preset tonight when I tried. It would also be nice to have a feature to update an existing saved preset based on the changes you made.

Lately, I've been using DPX (with help of the still-exporter extension for batch export), which does at least encode the screenshot at 10bit, but even with a 10bit source, I've compared a DPX screenshot with a manually exported 16bit TIFF, and there are minor errors, even with a 10bit ProRes source file. The errors are too small for a human to see without manipulation, but if I plan to use these screenshots for generating HDR metadata and other statistics, more precision is better to have. EXR is another format that has high bit depth, but it converts the source into a linear 32bit color space, which can be useful in certain applications, but I need precise RGB values that match the source, so no EOTF conversions.

So I still think there's a reason to allow higher bit depth formats for the export frame button. At the very least, give us control over the presets used for that button, since the new premiere seems to be so focused on presets for export. So it would fit nicely with the new workflow.

Crazy lag in 22.4. It was actually considerably better in 22.3

I find that captions start getting slower to edit after about 50 segments. Once you go over 100, it starts becoming almost unusable. After hundreds, it can take several seconds after I type something before it appears on screen.

The temporary workaround I've come up with is to duplicate the timeline, and work on captions for a small section of the sequence. Maybe work on transcribing for about an hour, and then copy that work back to the original sequence. The problem happens when there are a lot of segments in the caption track, so if you can minimize the amount of segments you are actively working on, you can minimize the issue.

Obviously, this should not be something we need to do in order to work on subtitles.

Make sure your sequence is set to progressive scan. If the footage field order is set, and the sequence is progressive scan, premiere will automatically deinterlace it, and will do a much better job than those basic options you described from other filters. You don't need a separate effect for it. You were probably watching a video of an old version of premiere or something, or a third party effect.

Interpret footage and set field order. Premiere will deinterlace for you.
