This is by design. We always keep captions within safe margins (10%). Would an option to defeat this restriction be useful or is it better to remove this safeguard all together. Opinions welcome.

It's been almost 4 months since Francis Crossman, Sr. Product Manager, Adobe DVA posted his explanation of this restriction and asked for our opinions. 100% of the opinions expressed here have asked for the position restriction to be removed.
We have not heard from Francis since...why?

I agree...we could use this now. I think the jury is out on removing this restriction. I wonder if Adobe is reading these comments.

Francis, Thank you for explaining the reason behind this restriction.
Even though there are only 20 or so comments in this thread, the "flavor" or the responses seems clear. This restriction should be removed. It seems safe to assume that all of us who use the captions feature would like this removed, even those who have not seen this thread. I was disappointed that today's update did not correct this even though a listed feature update was "Captions workflow refinements".An error occurred while saving the comment Jim Mahan commented
Please remove this restriction. As others have stated, we all have different workflows and final content needs. Lots of clients want subtitles at the bottom of the screen. Additionally, the user should be able to decide what is "safe" and not have that restriction imposed on us. It would also be nice if the background "bar" went all the way across the screen, regardless of amount of text.

Shane, what's the hack that you are using. I'd like to give it a try.

From my testing, the captions will not go all the way to the bottom of the screen. They will only go so far and stop. Am I missing something? Thanks

I like the subscript workaround however, there is still an issue. Since the subtitle track must be at the top and does not have the same effect controls as a video layer, you cannot transition to them or from them. Including fading them up from black or to black. Another big problem.
