It's a bit sad that you flag this as "Not actionable", and describe a strange workaround as the solution. Adding video transitions just to delte them is NOT a solution, it's a hack or at best a workaround. Just give us a keyboard shortcut to add Audio Only crossfades. It's not "Not actionable" - it's a must.

Hi there Husk! You can apply transitions to audio clips in Rush (see #4).
Here's how transitions/fades work in Rush.
1. If a clip is selected and you click the Dissolve, Rush will add dissolves for both Audio and Video.
2. You can drag and drop a dissolve to one side of the clip (beginning or end) and that will add a dissolve to both Audio and Video of the desired side.
3. If you Expand Audio and delete the vide-dissolve in case you want a fade for Audio only
4. If you want to a fade to a soundtrack, select the clip and click the Dissolve, Rush will add the fade to the beginning and end of the clip
