Adjust the playback speed of Replays
Say you record a replay of a puppet dancing, but you want to use it in a song that has a different tempo. Wouldn't that be possible if you added a speed adjustment option, like in Walk Cycle?

import video to scene as background
as that user can perform to match the timing of the background video
37 votesWhile the heading of this post is “import video as scene background”, and you can’t just grab any video file to do so, you can accomplish the requests of both comments in Character Animator now. By importing a PNG sequence. Once you’ve turned the video background you want into a PNG sequence, using an encoder/transcoder like Adobe Media Encoder, then, in Character Animator, go to:
File→Import Cycle→
(browse to PNG folder and click on first image of your PNG sequence)
→ImportYou will create a puppet in your Project panel with the name of the sequence folder. Open this puppet in the Puppet panel (Rig workspace) and apply the Cycle Layers behavior to the root puppet layer. In the Properties panel, under ‘Behaviors’, you’ll see your Cycle Layers behavior and an item that says “Start” with a corresponding drop down menu that defaults to “Immediately”. Click on the drop down…

Physics responds in random way, so it is impossible to record ball play
Physics responds in random way, so it is impossible to record ball play, because the ball work different every time you export. So maybe internal record (like life performance) would solve this.

add headturm\bodyturn feature
adobe character animator should only have the head and body turn because they give more details to the scene , plus in such huge software how can small feature be missing like that .
1 voteCharacter Animator does indeed have a head turner. In the rigging panel, you can add the head turner behavior to a puppet and associate corresponding layers with front facing, left and right quarter views, profile views and even upward and downward head views. Is this helpful?

Preset Behaviors
A set of basic behaviors likely to be used repeatedly...
Bounce
Rotate
Jiggle (with some kind of randomization)With parameters like duration, speed, randomization, ease in/out...etc
...All I can think of at the moment but I'm sure there's more ones likely to be used repeatedly.

Puppet App Player
I sell a lot of puppets, but I, and many other designers, could sell ALOT more if the customer didnt have to sign up for CH to operate the puppet. Bare with me, I have a solution. Its not only the cost, but some people find using the software difficult if they are not use to PC.MAC based programs, many today are use to using simple to load and play apps. What I propose is you build an app player that could operate .puppet files. I am not saying do it for free. Sell it for $50, I can get…

user experience
Greetings: My name is Ken Wampler, I've been a member since 8/28/2015. I don't have a suggestion for software changes for CA (not currently anyway), but for user experience. I've been working on a video for sometime now and I have two charactors which I have done the voices for. I have a need for third charactor which I chose the Caufman charactor to play because he could walk. I needed a voice actor for this and went to fiverr.com for this. I was disappointed with the results. I now see the difficulty in getting good voice matches.
You have…1 voteGlad to have you with us for so long! That’s a great suggestion, Ken. We’ll keep it in mind. In the meantime, while Character Animator doesn’t have our own site dedicated to user creations, there are many user groups online and we do have a Character Animator Forum at:
https://forums.adobe.com/community/character-animator .May be a good discussion to start there and get some other folks in the community to help identify the right location for the idea. But, we’ll think about it too.

Bug Report
This is a bug report. I'm working in Character Animator but cannot get my puppet into Photoshop to Edit even though I have the program open. I've followed instructions to use either control E or Edit Original in the Edit icon but nothing happening. Could you advise any further action.
Many thanks,
Victoria1 voteHi Victoria,
Can you export your puppet and send it to me?

Help with Adobe Character Animation
Hi,
I'm working in Character Animation and I cannot get into Photoshop with my puppet even though I have the program open,
Can you help?
Many thanks,
Victoria
1 voteIf you have photoshop and Character Animator installed on your computer, selecting your puppet in the Project panel or even in your timeline and pressing Command E (Mac) or Control E (PC) on your keyboard, will open the puppet in Photoshop or Illustrator, depending on which program it was created in. Does that solve your issue?

I am getting an error when I import the free puppet Tull.
I am getting an error when I import the free puppet Tull. I have the latest version of Character animator but I am getting an error code.
1 voteDoes this issue occur if you import the Tull.puppet file into a new project, or just an existing project?
Does the puppet show up in the Project panel after dismissing the error message?
Another thing to try:
1. Quit Character Animator, then wait ~10 seconds.
2. Relaunch Character Animator and immediately hold down the Shift key while it’s launching. This prevents any scenes/puppets from opening in their respective panels.
3. Try importing Tull.puppet again. Please let us know if that workaround works for you. Thanks.

CLIP LABELS
Would be nice to have the tracks labeled in the Timeline. The triggers are labeled.
Sure would make it easier to find which track is which.

Use recorded video files as animation source
I want to use talent in a studio to record voices and basic character movements for our workflow. We already have proper sound isolation for this, but not in front of computers. Therefore, it would be great to be able to use proper green-screened, high-fidelity audio recordings, as an input into Character Animator. Webcam input only cripples quality.
14 votesAs a workaround for importing video to animate against, you can import a PNG or JPG sequence (File → Import Cycle…) and use the Cycle Layers option for Start = Synced to timeline. This is new in version 2.1 released in April 2019.

New “loop forever” replay mode
The new Replays feature is cool, but it is missing a “loop forever” mode. I want to hit a trigger (e.g. latched) and have the sequence play forever until the trigger is hit again. At present a replay plays once and stops and you have to trigger it again to get it to repeat, even when trigger latching is on.
I assume a third replay mode of “loop forever while triggered” is wanted as a trigger mode.
The usecase is an “idle” state for the puppet. You can record an idle state (fidgeting etc) and and some other states (“frustrated”,…

Sub Perks for CH Extension
Subscriber benefits for the extension. Basically Subs either have access to certain triggers exclusively and they can have different prices. (such as it costs bits for regular people to trigger but for subs it's free)

Fix freeze on Mac os Mojave
There is an issue with the latest version of character freezing when it shows the record section. I have the previous version installed now and it doesn't suffer with the fault.
1 voteWhat version of Mojave are you on? There were some issues with the very first release that were resolved by users updating to 10.14.1 or higher. Let us know if you continue to have issues.

clipping masks from illustrator files
Does Ch support clipping masks that have already been created inside of Adobe Illustrator or do you have to recreate them inside Ch?
2 votesClipping groups in Illustrator artwork can’t be converted to clipping masks right now, so they’ll need to be set up in the Puppet panel.

Allow Replays to be Unaffected by Independence Changes
While adjusting settings in my newest puppet I discovered that replays are affected by the dependence/independence settings of the puppet.
For example, the replays of my puppet were recorded while the torso was set as independent. Once I changed the torso to dependent, the replays became erratic and the arm positions were completely messed up. Almost all of the replays need to re-recorded. Adjusting other settings like the attach style and dependence/independence of other groups did not resolve the issue.
Please:
1. Include this in the documentation and info about Character Animator. The current details imply that replays are "set…2 votes -
OpenGL invalid operationa
after you open the project, " OpenGL invalid operation. "I get the error.
1 voteWhat is the software that’s rendering the information in the upper-left corner of the Scene panel? Is this from the GeForce Experience software’s overlay functionality?
Can you try disabling that software that’s showing frame rate and other info in OpenGL views to see if that helps? Character Animator uses OpenGL to render content in the Scene and Puppet panels.
Thanks.
