This is the "Other versions" menu to which I was referring. It goes back all the way to 22.0, so it should give us quite a bit of experimental room to further isolate what's going wrong.

Was there are particular version where you noticed these behaviors changing? Which version(s) are you using and on which OS? Are you using the beta versions or stable?

Also, the Creative Cloud installer app ... menu for Character Animator should have an option to install older versions. That might help for comparing against older versions to understand when behavior deviations you're seeing might have been introduced. Also, if older versions that used to work are misbehaving, that's useful information as well. We've seen some driver issues (Intel/Wacom) and certain third party software (EOS Webcam Utility) involved in some instability issues lately as well.

Also, the latest 23.1 version completely swapped out the rendering engine from OpenGL to DirectX on Windows and Metal on macOS which is a major change in terms of which drivers will affect stability and performance.

I'm not sure what you mean by this one. Usually importing png/psd/ai files produces puppets and you put those _into_ scenes?
