  1. Set custom duration for manual take record

    Situation: I want to create exact poses. After that, I blend them together.

    Problem: The manual take commands are either too short (so I have to zoom in to expand them so I can add a blend) or too long and I can't see the start and end of the take.

    Solution: Let us set a custom length for manual takes. (For instance 2 seconds)

  2. Selected Camera Unavailable for iPhone Epoccam webcam app

    Character Animator CC on 5/29/20 shows "Selected Camera Unavailable" when app and phone are working correctly

  3. Draggers option, show existing takes while recording

    Situation: I'm fairly new (2 Weeks into Ch). I want to create explainer videos like Kurzgesagt. I want to create some more complex animations with draggers.

    Expected: On pause or record, while Dragger in Properties is active (red dot), I can see the pose/movement (takes) of the puppet.

    Actual: All takes, under the current Dragger Property, are not visible.

    Solution: Create an option under the Dragger property that lets us see the current poses/movement. While recording, the movement is not relative to the existing takes but the same as if you were recording normally.

  4. Allow keyframing using draggers

    The workaround for keyframes (using the transform behavior) being used in draggers is good. The problem I run into is now both objects marked (like the elbows) are rotating using the transform tool (because ARM IK is set at the body level). Posing arms would be a lot easier with the ability to set keyframes for arms or wherever draggers are.

  5. Scroll wheel click to navigate

    Similar to navigation in After Effects, clicking the scroll wheel and dragging allows a free flow of movement on the timeline. Would help greatly.

  6. Onion behaviors

    A double toggle or transparency of when certain behaviors are enabled. i.e; "Triggers". Show like an onion skin of both on and off effects. Similar to the snapshot feature but instead it transparent throughout the entire timeline. The "dragger" behavior would definitely benefit from this.

    Or better yet, a second "scene" window showing all the animation if all the behaviors were toggled off and another with the behaviors toggled on.

  7. Rotate handles without touchscreen

    I can't rotate the handles because I don't have a touchscreen. For instance left click to select handle and scroll to rotate.

  8. Add a take track without having to record.

    When I'm working with some of my more swap set based puppets it is so unwieldy to have to hit record and twiddle all the sets just to get editable tracks in place.

  9. Allow swapset assets to be triggered at specific points within stop/sustain replays

    For more nuanced animation within replays, it would be great to be able to trigger a swapset asset at a specific point within a replay,

    For example, if you want a latched replay pose where a character points to the side, it might look best for the "default hand" to switch to the "pointing hand" and back at some point a few frames from the beginning or the end. At the moment, when recording, it's only possible to have this change right at the start of the replay and then back again at the start of the blend out.

  10. Beard Recognition

    I've noticed quite a few problems using the camera with a full (and dark color) beard. This causes two problems.

    First, the software seems to confuse my mouth and my beard hair.

    Second, the software can't recognize the bottom of my chin. This makes sense, but it keeps jumping from the bottom of my mouth to the bottom of the beard. This tricks the software into thinking that I'm rapidly moving towards and away from the camera.   11. Optimize CH to work better with Illustrator

    The older versions of CH as well as the latest version of CH still has issues with puppets created in AI. I tested the Chloe (AI) puppet in the latest version of CH and the performance is awful. I'm getting about 4.5 FPS. I tested the Red Monster (PS) in the same version of CH and it worked fine. Is there anyway to optimize CH to work better with puppets created in AI.

  12. select silent mouth shapes

    I have a giant mustache so its hard for the camera to tell during silent moments if my mouth is neutral, smiling or open. would be great if when editing a recording you could select which of the silent mouth shapes that shows, rather than having to rerecord those parts.

  13. Bug: Waiting for camera forever on mac mojave

    On Mojave (10.14.3), the camera doesn't work: It is "Waiting for camera" forever. The green light next to the camera comes on, but CA stays waiting. I've tried all the ideas found in google searches:
    - I can't change to the next camera (there's only 1).
    - I have given permission to the camera, and even rebooted after.
    - The mic works fine.
    - The camera works in other apps, e.g. Chrome (which also has permission, I just didn't include that in the screenshot).

  14. Add Volume level adjustment for imported audio clips

    There does not seem to be a way to adjust audio levels from imported clips such as sound effects and background music. I can do this in an external app but its cumbersome and hit and miss. So having a simple audio level lever would be awesome and save a lot of time.

  15. viseme sensitivity control

    Auto lip sync slider/control to determine the amount of visemes created for pre recorded audio.

    We find we have to manually adjust the automated lip sync quite often as it seems to add a lot more visemes than required, if there was a sensitivity setting that could higher or lower the amount of visemes used that would be great.

  16. Physics responds in random way, so it is impossible to record ball play

    Physics responds in random way, so it is impossible to record ball play, because the ball work different every time you export. So maybe internal record (like life performance) would solve this.

    While the heading of this post is “import video as scene background”, and you can’t just grab any video file to do so, you can accomplish the requests of both comments in Character Animator now. By importing a PNG sequence. Once you’ve turned the video background you want into a PNG sequence, using an encoder/transcoder like Adobe Media Encoder, then, in Character Animator, go to:

    File→Import Cycle→
    (browse to PNG folder and click on first image of your PNG sequence)
    →Import

    You will create a puppet in your Project panel with the name of the sequence folder. Open this puppet in the Puppet panel (Rig workspace) and apply the Cycle Layers behavior to the root puppet layer. In the Properties panel, under ‘Behaviors’, you’ll see your Cycle Layers behavior and an item that says “Start” with a corresponding drop down menu that defaults to “Immediately”. Click on the drop down…

  18. Adjust the playback speed of Replays

    Say you record a replay of a puppet dancing, but you want to use it in a song that has a different tempo. Wouldn't that be possible if you added a speed adjustment option, like in Walk Cycle?

  19. Let us record facial tracking markers

    The facial tracking in Ch is so great, it makes me crazy that we seemingly have no access to it. The mouth is tracked in fine detail, but it seems almost entirely discarded. You can't record the markers, and I can't seem to find any way to drive visemes with video (sorry guys, but driving it with audio is too sketchy)

    If Ch can give me a real-time, 1:1 line up with my face and the trackers, why can't I drive more with that? And why do I have to use AE's slow and error prone facial tracking to do…

  20. Enabling record for a take should not discard other property values set up for recordings

    If you have say three properties armed (red dot on) and you set up all the draggers etc, then you decide to arm the "trigger" behavior as well, it loses all the other values you set up for armed behavior properties (e.g. all the drags you set up ready for the record are reset). I don't think arming or disarming a property should reset values for other properties (especially draggers). It should only reset a specific property if the "arm" (record) button is turned off for that property.
