Launch freeze with GeForce card on Audition 2021 14.0 and 14.1
I had Technical Support help me identify a problem with launching Adobe Audition on my Windows 10 pc with a GeForce GTX 1660 Super. It simply freezes.
Case ADB-19021551-W2J3
To reproduce (at my end)
1) Install any GeForce driver from 2021
2) Install Adobe Audition 14.x (2021)
3) Launch it and it locks up before the splash screen.
You have to wait for Windows to report an unresponsive app. The log file reveals that it stalls at Initializing (DisplaySurface) - no crash is reported actually. Just endless waiting for something.
No amount of fiddling with driver updates, deleting settings, clearing caches, un- and reinstaling apps helps.
Workaround:
1) Disable the Display Adapter from Device Settings
or
2) Configure Audition.exe to run in Vista compatibility mode.
ALL other Adobe apps I run with works fine, Acrobat, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, PhotoShop, and 2020 version of Audition.
Windows 10 build 20H2
AMD Ryzen 3900X cpu
32 GB ram
Plenty of free SSD space
Fresh install of Creative Cloud apps
It runs on a corporate domain with some policies applied (not sure which), but my account has been given Local Admin privileges on the system, and I have no problems fiddling with stuff, changing permissions, disabling processes etc.
So something changed between Audition 2020's way of initializing the DisplaySurface and 2021's way of doing it. At least in enough ways that the app now croaks when I try to start it on my system with an Nvidia display adapter.
The person from support that helped me find the workaround speculated that it could be related to permissions on the system. This did not make me any wiser, but perhaps it can help you.
