Audition should not put audio 17 minutes from the start of a new multitrack session.
I selected two files that I had newly opened in Audition (in the Files pane), right-clicked, and said "Insert into new multitrack session."
For no apparent reason, the audio begins around 16:54 in the timeline, with blank space before that. The playhead was at zero beforehand. Screen shot attached.
That was it, thanks! This did occur to me, but I couldn't investigate it because the files' start/end timecodes aren't shown anywhere in the UI that I can find. Source timecode is not available as a column header in the upper left pane, which is one place I'd expect it. Also in the info pane in the lower right. Seems like a pretty big omission. Am I missing it somehow?
I was using time of day for the timecode, and we weren't shooting in the wee hours... so I don't know how the file ended up at 17 minutes.
Thanks again for the timely reply. It tangentially led me to watch a video about the Preview editor and then to Sound Remover. Looks way cool!
Preferences>Multitrack Clips>"Use embedded timecode when inserting clips in Multitrack" could be the cause if your audio files have embedded timecode. Please follow up if it solves or does not solve the issue. Thanks!
