Roto Performance Abysmal
I don't understand why when I have 128GB, and 18 core processor, and a RTX 2080TI with 12GB of video ram that rotoscoping a 4k clip thats 10 seconds long, the performance drags down so much I have to wait 20 seconds to be able to add a add/subtract roto brush mark.
I look at my computer usage and After Effects is barely using 5% of my cpu and gpu.
The rendering of the frame not to mention the propagation takes SO long on a complicated roto, it's barely usable in my opinon.
Adobe PLEASE bump up CPU/GPU usage for…

Multi-frame Rendering Stops Working
[AE 22.1.1 (Build 74)]
About 2/3'rds of the way multi-frame rendering seems to stop working when rendering my project. Initially it renders around 10 - 13 frames at the same time. This then drops down to only rendering 1 frame at a time (sometimes going up to 2 frames, but then down again to 1). Nothing in the project changed. This happens during the actual render. Seems this thread (https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/help-with-multi-frame-rendering/m-p/12603954#M189246) is experiencing like-wise behavior from AE. Definitely think this is a bug, so really not gonna waste time trying to re-install, etc as the thread above have tried…

Bug Report: line spacing weird behaviour / broken in AE 22.2.1
The Line Spacing option from the text tool seems to be broken. It feels a bit like some value is added internally: e.g. spacing value "0" no longer results in several lines of text being on the very same baseline, but instead, it gives me something that I would expect from [value line spacing] = [value font size].
Setting line spacing to "auto" leads to too much spacing, too, especially when using smaller font sizes.
I first noticed this bug earlier this week, maybe last week. Should be around the time of the latest AE update, so I think this specifically…

Niklas, could you send us an AEP file that demonstrates the issue so we can try and reproduce it?

UPDATES KILL MY WORKSPACE EVERY ******* TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get your **** together Adobe!!!!!!
2 votesThanks for filing this. Could you please try the latest release of After Effects? The most recent release from last week was After Effects 22.4.
In the past few months there were some bugs where workspaces would not save correctly when restarting After Effects. Apologies for the disruption As of 22.4, all the bugs around this issue that we're aware of have been fixed.
If you're still experiencing a problem, please reply here with more detail so we can investigate. We will need to know:
- What exact version of After Effects you're using.
- What OS you're using.
- Any error messages you're receiving.
- A description of the behavior. i.e., The steps that you take so we can follow and determine where the problem is.
- Screenshots or screen recordings are super helpful for error messages or before/after states.

Awful performance version 22.1.1 (Build 74) 27" iMac 64gb RAM
All of a sudden I can't even move a simple text object on the screen. I get the spinney rainbow wheel trying even the most simple task. Forget previewing my scenes. And this is on a plain vanilla comp. No live video or any complex effects, this is just simple text and shape objects. Anyone experience similar results on macOS Monterey for older non-M1 Macs?

After Effects v22.3.0 DNxHD Alpha render broken - still not working correctly.
On April 22 I posted that "When rendering to DNxHD on 22.2.0 with an alpha channel, under format the options are None or Uncompressed. Both options work. On the latest release, the options are None or Compressed, if you choose compressed, no alpha channel is created, making it useless for creating titles for Avid. This needs to be3 fixed immediately."
Tom N responded and asked for me to upload some example files. Unfortunately, due to be very busy, before I got a chance to do that, the issue was marked resolved. DNxHD renders out of AE with an alpha channel…
1 voteI will reach out to John to figure out what is happening and then update this space once we have a resolution.

After effects 2021 hangs on composition opening
AE 2021 hangs when I load compositions in the project.
If I move to a different composition or go inside a nested composition it doesn't matter - the program will hang - only force quitting will help.
Makes this version unusable.
I have older versions of AE and it works fine.
I use macOS Catalina
happens randomly on new projects as well as old ones.10 votes -
Hi CPU Usage at ilde in version 2022
Since I update to version 2022 AE always push the CPU to the maximum when i open file without doing any action, and this cause the fun to run to the maximum also, and on activity monitor it show AE use 300% CPU. and this happen in 2 different MAC devices, iMac 4.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, Radeon Pro 580 8 GB Mac OS big sur, and macbook pro, i7 with Mac OS big sur
right now I just roll back to the previous version,4 votes -
BUG: Changing color mode on Illustrator file crashes AE
This is a repeatable error in After Effects. It involves changing the color mode on an Illustrator file that is already in and AE comp with Hue / Saturation effect on it.
- Import a CMYK Illustrator file into AE and place it in a comp.
- Put a Hue / Saturation effect on the Illustrator layer in the comp.
- Save the AE project.
- Open the Illustrator file and change the color mode to RGB and save the Illustrator file.
- After Effects will crash, and will crash whenever you try and open the project again. EVEN if you change the Illustrator file…

Roto Brush
Roto Brush freezes composition after applying edges and clicking on the freeze button to track edges. Then a pop-up saying "After Effects waring: Unknown Exception." I've been trying to work a project for 2 hrs and same results. Even uninstalled and re-installed, no changes. I have 32 gb of ram and a rtx 3070. I'm even running the footage at half res.

Dragging footage onto the composition button in the project window is completely broken
In AE 2022, dragging any footage in the project window onto the composition button is completely broken. It no longer creates a composition or does anything at all.

After Effects 2022 (i.e. versions above 18) does not open on Late 2012 iMac.
The title kind of says it all. If you try to open the latest AE iteration(s) on a late 2012 iMac this is what you get (see screenshot enclosed).

Allow access to Source Text / Value
I remember that some versions ago we could access the 'value' of Source Text via the context menu. But it is grey now, which makes it hard to edit empty text objects (i.e. when those were drive by an expression, but now need to be edited manually). Clicking in the canvas is no serious and reliable option, when the Text Layer already exists.
Please make this value accessible again.2 votes -
Bug Report: AE Spot Lights and Null objects
Pickwhiping a (Spot Lights) 'Point of Interest' to a 'Null' object fails to attach said value as moving the Null no longer affects the position of 'Point of Interest'.
This bug was introduced in a (CC 2020) update and continues to persist into the current version of CC 2020 and later versions of After Effects.

M1 MAX Mac book pro issues selecting drop down menu tabs on layers.
I've recorded a screen grab of what's happening.
This is the latest version of AE running on a 12.0.1 16" 32GB MacBook Pro M1 Max. I thought I was crazy, so I used my mouse, then the touchpad, and when I click, nothing appears, then it vanishes before I can select what I want. Kind of a show stopper there.

Show version name in About panel
It's hard to find out which Ae version is running. Only the behind the scenes version number and build are show, not the CC name.
2 votesJan, could you please elaborate what you mean by “CC name”?
A couple of years ago, Creative Cloud apps like After Effects stopped using the “CC 20XX” branding. We generally refer to the different versions by their technical version number (in your screenshot, 18.4.1), or by the year and month of release (18.4 = August 2021).
We realize that this can be a little bit confusing, which is why the latest release of After Effects has been versioned as 22.0. This will align it with our coming releases in the year 2022. The other Adobe video and audio apps, like Premiere Pro, have also aligned their version numbers in this way, making it the first time Pr, AE, AME, and Au are all on the same version number! Easy peasy.
