M1 Native After Effects becomes sluggish after periods of inactivity
First, big thank you to the AE team for the Apple Silicon native version After Effects. On the whole, it's much much faster and it has been a pleasure to work with so far. Big thumbs up from me.
I'm writing to report something that feels like it could be a bug. Strangely enough, I've noticed that after periods of inactivity, going away from my computer, After Effects becomes extraordinarily sluggish. The UI feels as though it lagging behind a good 1 to 2 seconds and the timeline becomes just as laggy.
The fix is simple. Re-start After Effect and the program feels fast and good as new. It's only a minor inconvenience to me to have to restart several times during a session, but thought it might be useful to know. So far the only thing that seems to reliably produce this bug is periods of 5 minutes or so of inactivity on AE. I'd be happy to test / provide further info on my computer/projects.
Here are my specs: MacBook Pro M1 Pro, 32gb ram 1tb SSD.
AE version 22.3 Build 107
I am using one instance of a third party effect, Plugin Everything's Deep Glow.

This happens to me as well, not only after inactivity, I noticed that changing workspace interface also seem to reproduce the exact same sluggishness.

Could you try without MFR enabled ? To see if this kind of behavior changes
