Fix broken Prores import in AE 2022
Hello,
I have a strange issue since I updated to Macos Monterey (12.1) and the latest version of Adobe CC 2022. I use a Macbook Pro 14.
When I import Prores files (tested with 444 and 444XQ), they show a strange color cast, shift towards green-cyan. They also show artifacts, banding,... When I apply the same LUT to a DNXHR file (444 12bit), the image is clean. I have the same result in Premiere.
When I import both Prores and DNXHR files in Resolve and apply the same LUT, both are clean.
There's seems to be an issue with Prores import in CC 2022. Is it related to M1 architecture? I tried my Premiere CC in both M1 and Intel version (with Rosetta), same result.
Thank you for your help, all the best,
Olivier

Hello Antoine,
Thank you again for taking the time to help me. I still haven't received an answer from Adobe, hope they'll fix at some point.
I'll contact you through your website if I have more questions. Thank you.
All the best,
Olivier

Hi Olivier
Glad it works. If you can do it, I would recommend .influx. It doesn't use the native M1 decoders but the decoders are compiled natively for this CPU. We can continue discussion here https://www.autokroma.com/contact
and keep this thread for Adobe developers to fix this weird issue ! -

Thank you very much Antoine, I forgot about the finder preferences.
I tested it and it works perfectly, looks exactly the same as the DNXHR file or the Prores on another computer.
You have a very happy new customer ;-)
Would you recommend renaming the files to .influx or force to use Influx in the Influx preferences?
Small question: does Influx use the Prores encoder/decoder that are in M1 cpus?
Thank you again for your help and the great software

You need to enable seeing the file extension in Finder. Otherwise you're just renaming the first part of the filename and not changing the extension

I changed the extension as you mentioned before importing the file in AE. Finder still recognises it as a Quicktime file.
I unfortunately can't share files from this project. I tried Prores file (422HQ and 444) from other projects, all show the same issue in AE and Premiere 2022 and are clean on another computer on 2020.

That could be caused by Adobe claiming to support the file. If you change the extension to .influx you'll force Influx to be used.
Also, if you share the file maybe we can try to help

Hello Antoine,
thank you for your reply. I tried Influx (have modified the suffix first) but unfortunately it gives the same result as a direct import.
I have tried the Prores file with the same LUT in other software like Screen (video player) and it's clean also. I'm a bit lost to be honest.

To test if the issue is coming from Adobe Importers, you could try out Influx Importer for Adobe https://www.autokroma.com/Influx
there is a 500 frames trial and you can force using Influx for import by suffixing the file with .influx
