Bug: After Effects 22.0 Freezing On Splash Screen AND Causes Other Apps Not to Start
Since installing 22.0, it hangs on splash screen. Not only Afx, but also C4D now, and several apps won't start. I had to uinstall afx and delete all the Adobe folders in AppData/Roaming... My other apps returned to normal. Once I reinstalled Afx it all started again.
Sometimes splash screen hangs on "Cleaning Up, Anywhere," sometimes it's "Mocah." Sometimes I see "Adobe DVA 2022" in the task manager (sometimes not). When I "analyze the wait chain" for AfterFX.exe it says it's waiting to finish network I/O

Hi Jesscia,
The network drive hunch was correct it seems. I did have a mapped network drive which was disconnected. Since re-connecting the drive to the network, all behavior has returned to normal.
Thanks for your help on this.
Tom

Hello Thomas,
We have put together a bug report with the log you have sent in for further investigation. Thanks for taking the time to do that.
For the slow network drive, you could try disconnecting from them/diagnosing the slow drive, but that might not be possible depending on how you use them.
Will link this post as well to the bug and update here as we get more information/have further questions.
All the best,

Thank you Jessica. That's a great idea--do they have any workarounds for the time being? Any plans to address this issue?
Emailed log file. Afx opened at 3:41pm (6.5m from click to functional).
Also this morning I closed Afx (and ME) which resulted in a system freeze and blue screen (attached)

Hello Thomas,
A fellow dev had the following thought: "My guess is that Ae is calling a Windows shell API, maybe something which results in drives being enumerated, and there's a mapped network drive on the user's network that isn't responding (or is running very slowly). Any other app calling into the shell would end up hanging too"

Hello Thomas,
Curious if you could generate a log file for us to look at.
On one of your successful launches, you can enable logging:
Launch After Effects and go to Help > Enable Logging.
Work in After Effects for a few minutes.
Then go to Help > Reveal Logging File. You can keep that file location open, try launching the application (where it will likely fail) and then send that log file to us at aebugs@adobe.com
If you do that, please comment again here so we know to look for your e-mail.
Thanks for working with us to help solve this issue.
All the best,

also it's causing file renames to hang...

the absolute worst thing is that AFX is causing the same issue with other apps, see attached file. And it took about 15m for DaVincni to even show me the splash screen. Again, if I uninstall AFX and delete the AppData files, other programs return to normal.

I had but not since I uninstalled everything. So currently with this issue the only Adobe software I have installed are AFX and ME

Hello Thomas,
In trying to narrow this down further, do you run any other Adobe software? If you use other Adobe software, are you experiencing similar issues? I am trying to determine if this is an AE only issue for you or if it might be related to licensing and causing issues across your various programs. I am leaning towards licensing due to the i/o item you mentioned as well as safe mode.
All the best,

Driver 472.39Yes I'm running CC desktop and I'm logged in. This happens if I launch AFX from CC and from the start panel. It happens when I run AFX as an administrator. It happens roughly 4/5 times. So every fifth time it finally works. Sometimes I let it just go and it finally opens after about 10m. Sometimes.
This has been happening all the time for the last 3 days. Over that period, I have completely uninstalled AFX, CC, run the CC cleaner tool, and deleted any with Adobe in it--preference files etc. After reinstall, this incorrect behavior has returned. After restart it persists.
The only thing that works is when I start my PC in safe mode. Then AFX runs fine.
It often takes about 20m for Afx to export to Media Encoder. That workflow has been reduced to Afx render queue > .mov > manually import to MC > .mp4

Hello Thomas,
Thanks for posting about the issue you are seeing. What system + OS version are you running?
I know first launch after install has to do some kernel setup work that makes launching take longer, but this sounds like you have let it go and it never moves forward.
Thanks for any additional details you could provide about your system, as well as if you are running Creative Cloud Desktop (and are logged in).
All the best,
Jessica
