There's no Industry standard video playback app. This isn't specifically an After Effects thing, but a general video issue.
I sometimes get clients who freak out because their video player doesn't show colours correctly. Some use VLC, some use QuickTime X Player, some use 'dropbox' on the browser, some use windows and some use Macs.
It can be a nightmare when they say 'my colours don't look right (this is usually on QuickTime player, which is a bit rubbish). I can often spend a half-day, down a rabbit hole trying to work out why, and it's so frustrating!
Now that Adobe is so very profitable with its cloud subscriptions, it's time they developed a free video playback app. This should replicate colours properly and be a good way for clients to view work. It should also have a good UI and nice playback controls like frame by frame. It could be a bit like a stripped-back premiere playback experience really. Needless to say it would be a cross platform, game changer.
Us CC subscribers could maybe have a nice 'pro' version with more features, but the free viewer should be good too. It'd make yours the industry standard like acrobat is for PDFs.
c'mon! you know this makes sense!
