Tapered Stroke Improvements (for Beta Version)
Thanks for finally developing a native tapered stroke feature on After Effects. I'm playing with it and find it very easy to use!
But I think this feature could be improved for many users if you consider that the taper could mimic better the width tool on Adobe Illustrator.
Now the taper produce a pointy or semi-rounded stroke cap, but it isn't possible to preserve a perfect round or butt cap.
Thank you again!

Hey David. Thanks for taking our feedback on board so quickly. The new Width options are exactly what we asked for. I've added further comments over on the Support Community forum post started by Jim_Acquavella as it seems to be getting more of a conversation going. Thanks again.

Thanks David for the update. I'm testing the latest version (17.1.0.53) and the tools feels lot better for preserving a cap styles and controlling the widths as the lenght of the taper.
Now gotta try it in a real life situation :)

With our new Beta program, we can now respond to these type of requests very quickly. Check out the latest beta, or at least v17.1.0.46 or later — does it now do what you want?

I agree with Saul. But I wanted to clarify that (although it would be great) we don’t need the ability to taper in and out several times along a single stroke, like the AI width tool. What we need, is the ability to control the width (stroke weight) at the end of the taper, separately to the easing controls you’ve currently provided. It should be possible to taper from eg 100px stroke weight at the start of a path, to 80px stroke weight at the end.
The workarounds that we currently use, (either using a text along a path with lots of periods, or many duplicate paths with different trims) both work like this. As does illustrators width tool. Even using a brush on a stroke in AI can be configured to taper to a specific width. This current implementation is a great start, but it’s missing crucial functionality that I think will result in more users complaining than celebrating.
