After Effects UI is EXTREMELY SLOW (mainly on PC)
After Effects, particularly on a PC with Windows and a 4K screen behaves extremely slow. I have 1080ti GPU and a 9940x CPU at 4.5 ghz and 128gb of ram. The more layers I add the slower it gets. It's ok that the frames take longer to render, but why does the ENTIRE UI need to be slower and slower. Can't I scrub the timeline in the same speed and regardless of frames taking longer to render??? On a mac this is faster, though still slow. This is the MAIN reason why After Effects feels horribly slow and it is definitely not necessary that moving a keyframe should update in 1 fps just because the scene is heavy to compute.
Please see this video. Showing how slow After Effects UI is even with a single Solid layer and how extremely slow it gets with 20-30 simple layers. If you Precomp (which can't always do while working, its faster, as if After effects is having difficulties displaying the UI of 20-30 layers)

I can't stress enough how important this is. This is the reason people think AE is slow. This complaint with video that's been here for over 2 years proves that AE's GUI is in dire need of serious work or possibly a complete rebuild. The Dev team is going to have to come to terms with this and fix it.

hey, I voted a while back, but learned that comments boost popularity, so here you go! https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects/suggestions/44254728-stop-adding-new-features-till-the-program-works-at also look here for some more links to similar issues. maybe if we get a few dozen of these on the top pages they'll listen.

Oh look! I built a new workstation! (Specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Cx/saved/gWRk99 )
What's amazing: Cinebench scores are fantastic! Lowest rendering time (quickest!) of the many years I've been running the AE Total Benchmark scene! Everything else I run other than AE is much improved!
What's not amazing: AE previews are still slow and the UI is laggy. And there's seemingly nothing I can do about it.
PugetBench results: Overall score of 1156. (The School of Motion article listed in the response from Victoria Nece shows a score of 985.)
CPU-Z benchmark results: 16336 (multi thread) / 499 (single thread)
I am beyond frustrated at the state of this application. It is, without hyperbole, the greatest pain point in my professional life.
