Update: Uninstall AE 17.1 and Reinstall 17 (can be done via [...]->Other Versions in the CC desktop app).
The corrupted project file will (should) open. This worked for me.

Seconded. To add more detail - Using rotobrush works as expected within the program, with no errors or noticable problems. It's only once the file is saved, closed and re-opened that the project is corrupted. It cannot be imported, and automatic backups are also corrupted. My assumption is that this has something to do with how Rotobrush is saving its cache within the project file, but I can't confirm. Additonally, I have not tried 'freezing' the brush data to see if this solves the problem at all.

I'm having this exact problem. Have you found a solution or work around? I cant find a solution anywhere.
