Roto brush is causing a 33:4 data not found error.
I have discovered that in the latest version of After Effects 2020, I get a "data not found error (33:4)" message when trying to open a file where the roto brush was used. I've tested this extensively, and it's definitely the roto brush that is causing the issue. Any file which uses the roto brush effect will not open after being saved. I suspect AE is having trouble finding the roto brush data, but there is no way to fix the problem as the files won't open at all. This has caused a fair amount of lost work.

Adobe should send out an email when a bug like this is found. I am really getting tired of having to troubleshoot my own Adobe problems.

Just got an update for After Effects. Version 17.0.2 works.

Just found out this bug today. Few hours of roto work and my project is useless after save. VERY DANGEROUS!!
Priority fix Adobe, please!

Rolled back but it messed up all my already made rotoscoping. So many hours of work wasted...
Temporary solution to open it in 2019

same problem with all my rotobrushed compos...I can not open them anymore...also my last AE was CC5.5 so impossible to open it at all. Deadline is close and now I find tons of hours lost!!!!!!. Autosaves are corrupted, too
Dear Adobe...do you test your releases enough? Rotobrush corrupting projects is not a minor bug!!
Any solution yet to this??

Roll back a version. There was a period of two weeks where I was trying to figure this out. Lots of panicking, troubleshooting, and lost hours, but that seems to be the solution until they fix it in an upcoming patch or version.

You could a previous version of After Effects or reverting to 17.0.0. I had a similar issue and was still able to open the files in 2019 (this happened on ~20 of my files which included the auto-saves).

Error 33 :: 4
Corrupt file and also saves are lost.
Two days struggling to do a job, sleepless nights and I checked my limit.
I need a solution

This is pretty horrible, every file I create today can't be opened. Have to work off old files and can't save work.

Adobe should show how to fix the error along with the error. I almost lost my entire work; luckily i found this forum here before i gave up.

the same for me, I spent an incredible amount of time figuring out where the problem came from and I lost hours of work ... The cause is the use of the roto-brush.

Sorry about this issue. We are working on a fix for it currently. In the mean time, you should be able to still open the project using AE 17.0 (the build launched in November at MAX).
