Bug - Roughen Edges doesn't work the same in 2020 as it does in previous versions
In AE CC 2020, the Roughen Edges effect still shows the original edges of shapes and vectors. It also produces oddly colored edges.
This wasn't the case before this version. It used to produce nice rough edges.

This is fixed in After Effects 17.0.1, released last night. Please update and let us know if you’re still seeing any issues.

This problem is still unresolved. I am unable to use this feature and instead had to use other software, which I would recommend across the board.

Hey everyone, I found a solution for this, if you want to use roughen edges on the adjustment layer so that it affects all shape layers under it then here is the fix > Use CC Composite on the adjustment layer and then use roughen edges

I updated to 17.5 today and the Roughen Edges effect does not work on shape layers.
EDIT
The effect does work if applied directly on the layer but not on an adjustment layer. -

I can't press any reply button on this forum but here is a screenshot of my work around. Basically in the same shape layer I made a bigger square and turned opacity to 0 so it exists to increase the size of the "bounding box" for the roughen edge effect, without actually showing up. This has worked for me I think so give that a go...
Best,

I am running 17.0.6. on Mac 10.15.4. Adding roughen edges turns any shape of any size into a box. Changing the settings doesn't resolve it. Adding a mask doesn't help. Please see attached and please advise.

Please can you look into this bug again? The issue doesn´t seem resolved in the 17.1 version :(

I'm still having the same issue, updated to the 17.0.1 release. Chunky sharp edges.

I'm still having the same issue since the 17.0.1 release. Unless I'm missing something here with how I'm using the effect.

I'm having the same problem - it is specific to version 17.0.0

Thank you for the bug report. We've reproduced this issue in-house and are working on a fix.

I'm getting similar results as OP. Black edges in parts where roughen is at peak

Yep seems broken to me. The roughened edges won't spread outside of the shape boundaries for me. And adjusting the paths give similar results to OP
