RAM Preview Performance Bug... Again :\
Since updating to the latest build of AE (16.1.2 Build 55) my ram previews are again unstable at best (a problem I haven't had with a number of previous AE builds).
If I open a project that has a number of other reduced AE projects that have been imported into that project, my RAM previews stutter like crazy and the feature is basically unusable (again, a problem I haven't had with a number of previous AE builds… I’m so disappointed to see it return).
If I reduce that project, I can get an almost useable RAM preview, but there’s still a slight stutter to the preview.
I searched for a solution online, and someone suggested that if you have a pull-down menu selected during a RAM preview, you’ll get a smooth, real-time preview… and sure enough, I tried it and it worked—but as soon as I deselect the pull-down menu, the preview becomes stuttery and falls well below real-time. That tells me pretty definitely that this is a problem with the build... not the machine or my project.
Again, with the build before this most current one, RAM previews were pretty flawless. Please help!
As I said, I’m using the most current build of AE. Also, I’m using a Mac Pro (Mid 2012)(OS 10.13.6), 12 core, 64 GBs of RAM, with a Nvidia GeGorce GTX 980 card.
Thank you!

The latest (November 2019) release of After Effects includes major improvements to our preview architecture. You should see reliable, real-time playback of cached frames.

I have this problem too on very complex projects.. on more simple projects RAM preview works fine... tried rolling back to all versions / updates of CC 2019, but no luck.. With CC 2018 the same project works just fine.. Someone from Adobe support suggested I should install more RAM, since the recommended RAM for AE CC 2019 is 32 GB (double than CC 2018) and I have only 24 GB... But seeing you also have this problem on 64 GB RAM makes me doubt his "solution".

I was really hoping that the next AE build would fix this almost debilitating problem... but it wasn't addressed. I'm loosing hope. Solid, real-time ram previews are ESSENTIAL in AE, and should be given focused, relentless attention by the AE team to make sure that feature ALWAYS works. Forget new bells and whistles, make sure the fundamentals are solid.

Same problem here. Rolled back to 16.1.1 and this problem did not occur on the exact same composition. Open the composition in 16.1.2 and boom, it's ****.
