Please buyout or employee some of these awesome coders
So many great scripts make AE much more usable and efficient. Hire some of these guys or buyout their scripts and incorporate it into AE.
Love the power and customization but dang 3rd parties are making your software more user friendly. That should be Adobe's job.
Would love an update that focuses on UI improvements. Let's face it developers are brilliant but they really don't think or use the software like an end user does. Simple efficient design wins and is business friendly.
Thanks for posting. This idea is being closed, please read my message below for detail.
We, the After Effects development team, agree with you that there are many well-designed tools that extend the functionality of After Effects. And that’s intentional: After Effects is built to be extensible, and we are constantly improving the functionality for scripts, panels, and plug-ins. We have a long-standing, close relationship with our developer community.
Many scripts and plug-ins for After Effects are workflow-specific. I appreciate that certain extensions are broadly used by many or even most After Effects users doing certain types of work, but that doesn’t mean the same extensions are needed by all After Effects users. We focus the development of After Effects on core functionality that will be used by as many users as possible, everyone from motion graphic designers to compositors to animators to UX designers to editors to scientific analysis, and beyond. Extensions are there to do exactly that: extend the functionality beyond the core workflows. Still, we recognize that there are extensions that add important functionality for all users. Occasionally we have added features to After Effects that end up obsoleting extensions with similar functionality. (I can’t be specific at this time, but something we’re working on right now will improve the usability of one feature of After Effects by leaps and bounds, a feature for which many users rely an extension or external application to fill the usability gap.)
And we get ideas for those features by talking with users, including our developer community. Daily. This UserVoice site is just one part of the larger effort that the After Effects team puts forth to understand the needs of our customers.
About hiring script developers onto the team: we’ve done so! We’ve also hired working artists onto the team. One of the challenges is that software development is such a different discipline from being an artist or designer, so it’s rare for us to find someone who bridges both disciplines; usually we hire for one skill and teach them the other. But when we have an opening and find someone who stands on that bridge, you bet that we talk to them to see if it’s a good fit. It doesn’t always work out, but sometimes it does.
On that topic, if you or someone you know would be a good fit for helping us shape the future of After Effects, please apply: http://aftereffectsishiring.com
We’re also not above acquiring extensions to improve the functionality of After Effects. There have been many cases of this over the years, going all the way back to the Atomic Power plug-ins, and more recently to the SkyBox VR plug-ins and scripts from Mettle.
Finally, if there is a script, panel, or extension that you’d like to see as native in After Effects please submit a request for that here at this UserVoice site. Specifically, what we need to learn is what problem you’re trying to solve, and that can inform us as to whether we should build native functionality for the same problem, or if the existing solution is good enough that we should acquire it.
