BUG - docked extensions cause a crash in AE 2017
this is a repeatable bug - when I install an extension and dock it with my other toolbars, after rebooting after effects eveything looks fine until I open a project or even just click on a toolbar. then i get a windows error dialog and after effects quits. this does not seem to happen if I leave the extension as a floating window.
I'm running the 2017.2 release for various reasons - 220.127.116.11 on a fresh install of windows 10.
The extensions I have tried this with are Flow (v1.0.2b) and also the latest version of TimeTracker which I just downloaded from creative cloud extensions -so i don't think the bug is to do with the extension itself.
I have used Flow docked on my Mac (mac pro on Yosemite) for over a year without issue. same version of AE.
I just tried TimeTracker docked in AE 16.0.0 buil,d 235 (can't seem to install Flow in this version...? different issue), and it appears to work fine ie the same crash does not occur.
oh yeah the crash is persistent everytime I open after effects until I trash my prefs. then
attached are screenshots of the crash and also my system info just in case. cheers. the workaround is simply to leave the extension floating, but seeing as it took me 3 hours of testing toi work this out I figured I'd file it as a bug report anyway in case anyone else is having an issue with this behaviour.
... it occurs to me that you may not care because this is an older version of AE but from looking in other forums there are plenty of professionals who are sticking with this version until some of the wrinkles in the current iteration get ironed out. so figured I'd file this just in case. cheers
