String memory leak
Error 83::2 - String Memory Leak
I get this error message every time I log out of AE 2019 whilst using one particular project that involves a lot of imports. Will not open the files again later. I can work around it by importing the file into a new project, but once I save the NEW project, under a different name and go to quit the program, I get the same error message and rinse and repeat. I don't know which, if any, files are corrupt and the program otherwise acts normally until I try and close out the program. It doesn't generate an error report or anything, so I can't access that. When I try to reopen, whatever the error is causes the files to open part way, and then the application stops responding. Any thoughts? I've lost HOURS of work on this project every time.

This is fixed in After Effects 17.0.1, released last night. Please update and let us know if you’re still seeing any issues.

Whenever I re-open, after this warning // After Effects error: string memory leak // the last saved changes are not available...
I have to pretend to do something, save it and then close to prevent having the work compromised. -

Everytime I close after effects, I get a Sting Memory Leak error. I've seen others post it but not how to fix it. Only suggestions to log the bug.
This is with version 16.1.2

After the update to the latest version of Ae, I keep getting the message "After Effects (83:: 2) After Effects error: memory leak", every time I close After Effects.
Am using late 2015 iMac, 27-inch and macOS 10.14.5 -

Sometimes this error appears on closing After Effect, I saw many other people experiencing this problem in the past and hoped this problem was already solved, but it seems this error is still there. Any idea if it will be solved?

"String memory leak" at quit, AGAIN, it went away for a few months and now it's back, after the latest Windows update. :(

Iam having exactly the same issue - brand new iMac, latest AE, large project and comp, the whole thing slows down, I can't preview, so quit and get same message.

AE CC 2018, 15.1.2, Build 69
macOS 10.13.6 (17G5019)
iMac Pro, 18-core, 128GB RAM, Vega 64
100GB RAM Reserved for AE, 28GB for other apps.I appear not to be the first to submit this bug. Memory leak appears when working on large compositions for long periods of time (~6-8 hours).
I'll hit a point where the system is acting sluggish and I try to exit the program softly, after saving. When AE closes, I receive the prompt, "After Effects Error String Memory Leak (83 :: 2)".
There was nothing helpful in console logs and this has happened across multiple projects within my up-to-date version of AE2018.
Thank you.

String memory leak is leading to crashes and makes playback impossible.

Same here. Render times will suddenly be insanely long and everything is slows. I close AE and I get the memory leak message, then restart the Mac and everything is back to normal.

I'd like it if Ae didn't give me a "bad layer check out" and string memory leak warning literally every time I quit.

I am getting this error everytime closing CC 2018 AE. I saw many have this issue on AE Forum. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2406626
Is it going to get fixed? I installed the latest update and no avail.
Thanks!

Sorry for a late reply, I thought no one would answer. That worked much better. Thanks for that tip! It won't crash anymore. Takes more time before I can see it in realtime but better none the less.
Thanks Kevin!

Does this happen even when you limit allowed memory use in Preferences? Audition's multitrack has the same problem.

Hi
When rendering out a comp all my memory (64GB) is eaten until it crashes (ca 15 minutes). I have to babysit and stop the rendering every 15 minutes and then purge memory and restart the rendering. I can only use image-sequences as output otherwise it will stop/crash. I can send you files to testrender or screendumps from the TaskManager in windows.
