Impliment option to have "Generate solid" create shape layer instead of new project item
When the user chooses to create a new solid, the user should be presented with an option in the dialogue box for the new solid which, when checked, toggles the creation of a shape layer in the comp rather than creating a new "Solid" project item.
Purpose: Solids behave differently than shape layers for some effects. In example, apply "Set Matte" to a text layer; set the source of the alpha to reference a solid or a shape layer and the results are different when the referenced layer is transformed.

Thank you, Tim, for the acknowledgement. I'll be considering your feedback and will submit a clarified idea / request if warranted. Much appreciated!
This is an interesting idea. I don't think I agree with it.
You can create a shape layer that is the size of the composition by double-clicking on the Rectangle tool in the Toolbar.
Is the request that you want to be able to control the dimensions of the rectangle shape when it is created, the same as you do in the New Solid dialog? That's a good request, but different from what you've described above.
Another way to go about this would be to have the Layer > New > Shape Layer command create the shape, possibly with a similar dialog for controlling shape properties. Right now that command only creates an empty shape layer, which I've never found useful. Again, this is a different request that what you've described, so if you think this would be useful, best to create a new request at this site so it can be voted on appropriately.
