Puppet Tool stops comp from rendering (but is fixable)
Occasionally while working with the puppet tool (advanced or legacy), suddenly my comp will no longer render (including any parent comps), and I have no error messages or any other feedback.
If I turn off the offending puppet effect, things will render gain, but as soon as I re-enable the puppet effect, the comp again stops rendering, leaving me with a window.
Good news is that I can fix this error by simply toggling the puppet engine to advanced and then back to legacy (or viseversa) and everything works again.
Not a project breaking error, as it is quickly fixable, but it is rather annoying, especially if you don't know which layer has the offending puppet effect and need to search through everything. I also have no idea what causes this error, as it appears to happen randomly and I have no way to purposefully induce it.
Several of my fellow animators have experienced the same issue, and unfortunately for them they didn't know about toggling the puppet engine, and so had to make a new puppet effect and replace their puppet pins from scratch.
Thanks a lot !!!
Can I just say thank you so much for posting this. I just had the same problem with the puppet tool not rendering in the viewport and crashing out when rendering. I was about to restart animating the puppet tool from scratch and lose most my mornings work until I found this. This work around totally saved me - thank you so much for sharing this.
