Ability to import a single comp from another AE project
I'd like to be able to import a single comp from another AE project. I often work on projects where we keep a library of animated comps inside a "master" AE project. Whenever this gets updated, or I need to pull in a specific animation, I have two options:
1) Import the entire project and then go back through and delete what I don't need.
2) Open the master AE project, save a new copy of it, reduce it to just the comp I need, open my target AE project, import the copy I just made, then go back and delete the copy.
From a workflow standpoint, both of these processes feel messy, slow and precarious. I'd love to be able to import a comp without having to do any kind of deleting or reducing, as there's always a small risk of making a mistake and losing some work there.

Take a look at Autodesk 3ds max Import -> Merge function to see how this can be done properly!
Right now AE always imports the whole project. It would be great to have a sneak preview into the whole project structure where you could select what you want to import. For selected compositions this would mean all corresponding precomps and footage files gets imported accordingly depending on their dependencies. Keep folder structures of imported project items intact (optional choice) and put all newly imported items in a new separate folder called "Imported Items from [Project File Name]". -

Ok yes I see.
But when you do either solution 1) or solution 2) you cannot go back to the source / master comp, change something and have it automatically updated on the imported comp :/

Soren, what would be useful too is a way to preview the content of a selected comp before import it, projects with several comps could require a super good memory to remember what you need to import.

Antoine, pre-render the sequences it does not seems to be what Soren wants, he wants to still have the freedom to edit and make changes on the comps. I suffer this all the time, we reuse comps from several projects and having to open a full project for that populates the project windows with tons of useless things.

Interesting. Couldn't you prerender the sequences ?
