  1. Full program multi-threaded support

    After Effects would benefit greatly from being able to actually utilize all cores when rendering, rather than having to rely on a third party solution, like the excellent program Render Garden by Mekajiki.

    Multi-Frame Rendering is available in After Effects 22.0, which shipped this morning.

    Preview, Speculative Preview, the Render Queue, Adobe Media Encoder and command line rendering can all take advantage of Multi-Frame Rendering, enabling you to preview and render up to 4x faster.

    22.0 also includes Speculative Preview, the Composition Profiler, and a redesigned Render Queue with notifications via the Creative Cloud desktop and mobile apps.

  2. Label Colors for Keyframes

    Allow users to use the same label colors but for keyframes similar to markers. This would definitely be helpful for character animation to help organize different loops or cycles. Simply add a list to the context menu when right clicking on selected keyframes.

    I am very happy to let you know that Keyframe Color Labels has now shipped with the 22.6 update of After Effects. Head to your Creative Cloud app to download the latest version, and have fun getting colorful in your timeline!  


    Thank you to everyone who helped test and give feedback while this was in beta, as well as the initial ideas and votes for the feature request to start with. We appreciate hearing from you and helping to make AE work better for you.

  3. Support the HAP codec

    The HAP codec, which is massive in the live video industry, is no longer supported.

    Please bring it back? It would be very nice.

    Tapered shape layer strokes were added to After Effects version 17.1, in May 2020. More information is available here:

  5. AE CC 2019 Remove or Move Home Button in Toolbar

    In AE CC 2019, please remove or move the new Home Button in the toolbar.

    It's in the same place that the Selection Tool used to be. Having used AE for many years, I'm used to clicking that spot automatically.

    I'm not sure why the Home Button is the first tool in the toolbar now. I'll never use the Home Screen to access projects or create new ones.

    If the Home Button needs to be in AE somewhere, please move it out of the toolbar.

    In the April 2019 release of After Effects (version 16.1), there is now an option to hide the Home button in the Tools panel. In Preferences > General, disable the Enable Home Screen option, then restart After Effects (this will also disable the Home screen when After Effects starts).

    You can install this release via the Creative Cloud desktop application.

  6. Separate Dimensions on by Default

    Add a toggle in Preferences for users to default to Separate Dimensions enabled rather than something that needs to be turned on for every object.

    It could fit really well right underneath "Default Spatial Interpolation to Linear" in the General Preferences tab :)

  7. Please add a taper effect/option to 'Stroke' as well as Shape Layer strokes.

    It's such a simple request that has been requested for over 8 years. The ability to taper a stroke of any kind. Either from the "Effects & Presets - Stroke" or a simple Shape Layer stroke.

  8. Improve the expressions panel with basic scripting UI

    Revamp or make the AE Expression panel look more like scripting in e.g. Atom or Eclipse - with color-coding, auto-suggest, numbered lines, larger text size. Look to the plugin "Expressionist".

  9. Add composition's contextual menu “Reveal layer source in project panel” to customizable shortcuts.

    The new shortcut editor is great, but actions only accessible as contextual actions inside the composition panel are unavailable in the shortcut editors.

    It would be great to be able to add shortcut to those. Especially since 15.1 added a new level of context to “Reveal layer source in project panel”.

    This feature was added in the April 2019 release of After Effects (version 16.1). You can install this release via the Creative Cloud desktop application.

    Specifically: The Reveal sub-menu has been added to the Layer menu. This menu is identical to the Reveal sub-menu in the layer context menu (right-click on a layer in the Timeline menu). This means that you can assign keyboard shortcuts to the commands in the Reveal sub-menu, including Reveal Layer Source in Project.

  10. Bring back 'System Default Audio Device' as option in Audio Hardware

    Bring back 'System Default Audio Device' as option in Audio Hardware preferences.

    I switch a LOT between speakers and headphones on any given day. There used to be an option where AE would use whatever the system audio is... plug headphones in, audio switches to those... unplug headphones, AE switches to speakers.

    Why was this removed in AE (and Premiere)?

  11. Make guides and rulers snap to whole pixels.

    Rulers and guides that snap to whole pixel values when being dragged into place. Additionally adding a function that can adjust these rulers and guides to specific values.
    Eg. If I want to now, I can't place a ruler exactly on 400pixels on the x axis, I can only drag the ruler to a rough guess.

  12. A fast and robust exr workflow with support for z-depth

    Exr from 3D Renders like Octane right now is bad supported. We need an alternative to the discontinued EXR Plugin. The performance is horror right now. EXR deep pixels are so 2018. So start to take it serious

  13. Bug report: After Effects CC 2019 can't read alpha channel in ProRes 4444 or DNxHR/DNxHD in .mov files if project set to 16- or 32-bpc

    The new version of After Effects produces an error when reading ProRes 4444 or DNxHR/DNxHD Quicktime files that contain an alpha channel (see image attached) This error is only noticeable when the project is set to 16 or 32 bpc

  14. Bug report, Enabling grid cases extreme Latency. After effects 2019.

    With a simple click on anything I get a the color wheel and about 5 seconds before that click is acknowledged. Thus far I have only experienced this when grid is enabled. AE 2019 IMAC running mojave and 40gb ram. I used AE 2018 yesterday and did not have this problem. This is making it impossible to use. I will have to revert back to 2018.

  15. WARP STABILIZER: Bring back analysis information like current frame being analyzed, ETA for completion & Auto-Scale amount.

    All that information is key for time management when working tight deadlines. Auto-Scale information is also important for matching shots to scale.

  16. Add "Drop-down" and "Radio Button" to Expression Controls

    I'd like to see Dropdown menu and radio button added to expression controls.
    That way, the motion graphics templates in Premiere could use this instead of sliders or check boxes when applicable.

  18. License Pro Res. Pay for it. Scratch did. So can you.

    If other apps can export pro Res on a PC then so could Adobe. You can afford it. Pay the man. We pay you. You pay them. We all work. After Codecs can hack it with ffmpeg but I am having to switch to Scratch to do it properly. Put your hand in your pocket. Pass the costs on to us. Just do it. please.

  19. Bring back 1, 2, 4-View Interface!

    For some stupid reason... we can no longer see the 1, 2, 4-View option in the Composition Window. This feature has been changed where you MUST have 3D Track enabled in order to view this option. Whomever made that decision to update the interface with this newer work flow is an Idiot! CHANGE IT BACK! There was NO reason for this!

  20. M1 Max ProRes 4444 Alpha Compressor Failing Render

    Renders fail when attempting to export ProRes 4444 alpha that would otherwise not occur on Intel based macs.

    Issue causes the following prompt:

    """

    After Effects error: Rendering error will writing to file "...." Compressor format error. (-1610153454).

    Followed by:

    After Effects error: An unexpected error occured while exporting a composition. Error Code: 9988

    Please restart After Effects and retry the export.

    """"

    Anecdotally, this is occurring on about 80% of comps I try to render. Most frequently on more complex comps with blurs and variations in the opacity levels.

    Please fix this quickly, otherwise this effectively causes AE on…
