  1. AE cc2019 16.0.1 crashes when entering in a precomp

As the subject says When I double click to go to a precomp it crashes without any reason. I'm using windows 10.

I've downgraded to 16.0 and it seems fine.

  2. BUG - "Enable font size adjustment" in MOGRT does not work unless "...custom font" also selected

Testing the Essential Graphics /MOGRT workflow in CC19 apps, came across this bug. When creating a new template in After Effects, BOTH of these options (enable size and enable font selection) must be checked before exporting in order to enable font size adjustment. Just having the "enable font size adjustment" box checked by itself does not allow font size adjustment in Premiere; the box is there but nothing happens.

  3. After Effects Crash on .TGA import to comp. Also get better customer service that can actually answer questions regarding a specific product

Latest version of After Effects. Import a .TGA sequence fine. Import a single .TGA and After Effects crashes and requires I close the app. The .TGA sequence that imports fine is 8192 X 8192. The single .TGA is the same size. One crashes after effects the other does not. This BUG just showed up today after update. Additionally I attempted to contact support and was directed to a person that was reading from a web page trying to assist, zero experience with After Effects. We pay a monthy subscription and the only time I have ever contact Adobe about a…

  4. apply color LUT strength slider

I use the "Apply color LUT" effect all of the time. However more often than not I need to adjust the strength of the LUT, so it would be very handy to have a "strength" slider build right into this plug-in.

Thank you for filing this request.

In the Timeline panel, every effect has a Compositing options section, which includes an Effect Opacity control. (This is also the set of controls you would use to add a mask to the effect.)

Does this do what you want for the Apply Color LUT effect? Or are you asking for a different result? If something different, please elaborate.

    Update 4 Dec 2018:
Based on your comment below, I’m going to close this as resolved. Glad the effect opacity control works for you.

  5. Next/Previous frame

Don't know the exactly category for this, and I don't know if you have this function already and I was the one uncapable to find, but you should add some shortcut for moving from a frame to the other, without the mouse, like we have on Premiere: arrow left, arrow right.
I know you already have a thing like this for Key Frames, but I'm saying it for every frame, cause sometimes I just want to add a Key next to the other and I need to zoom it all that I can to find the frame right beside it…

The Page Up and Page Down keys will move the current time one frame backwards or forwards in time.

If you are working on a keyboard without Page Up/Page Down keys, you can either:

    • Hold the Command (macOS) or Control (Windows) key and press the Left and Right arrow keys.
    • Hold the Function key and press the Up and Down arrow keys.

Adding the Shift key will move the current time backwards or forwards 10 frames at a time.

There are other keyboard shortcuts for time navigation:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/keyboard-shortcuts-reference.html#time_navigation_keyboard_shortcuts

You can view or modify keyboard shortcuts by choosing Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts.

  6. Edit text from Photoshop file directly in After Effects

It would be great if after importing a Photoshop file you could edit the text directly in After Effects. This is a feature you can already do in Premiere Pro but would be great if you could do it in After Effects as well.

Thank you for filing this request.

This is already possible. In After Effects, you can convert a Photoshop text layer into an After Effects text layer: right-click on the layer in the Timeline panel, then choose Create > Convert to Editable Text.

    More information is here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/creating-editing-text-layers.html#convert_text_from_photoshop_to_editable_text

If this functionality doesn’t meet your needs, please file a new request with more detail about how you’d like After Effects to behave with text in a PSD file.

  7. Selected Puppet Pins in 2019 aren't hilighted in the viewer

In 2019, the position puppet pins and legacy pins do not display any differently in the viewer when selected. When the mouse button is held down to select one, it's possible to see which are selected, but once the mouse is released, the view looks as if none are selected.

Thank you for filing this request.

A change to the appearance of selected puppet pins was made in the October 2018 release of After Effects CC (version 16.0). Please see Joy’s comment on this page about the new appearance with the dot, and how to increase the size of the dot via the Path Point and Handle Size preference.

  8. Add a 'Go To File' button after each export in the Render Queue

We need a pretty simple, and seemingly very obvious addition to the render queue:

After each completed export in the render queue, please add a button that can take you immediately to the rendered file's location. I find it odd how this hasn't been included, and you can't even go straight to that file's location by right-clicking on the item in the queue.

Also, would it be possible to add the ability to copy the folder location of one item in the queue, to the rest of the waiting, ready-to-go exports? Without having to manually click on each item and…

The link to the output file is there, but a bit hidden — twirl down the Output Module section and you’ll see a blue file path. Click this link to open the file location.

File > Scripts > Change Render Locations will let you change all the queued items in one go, or you can shift/cmd-click individual Output Modules to select multiple exports to change at once.

  11. Shift Forward Slash

I SWEAR that if I was working in the Effects panel .. the Effects panel active ... I could press Shift Forward Slash to fit my comp viewer to All. Now I can't do that. In order to get Shift Forward Slash to work I have to activate the timeline panel or the comp viewer.

I know this has to have worked in the past - I apparently have the muscle memory of using it when the Effects panel is active because I keep trying to invoke it and my "why isn't this working" frustration is fairly recent.

    Hi Marc,

Thanks for filing this bug. This is a known issue in After Effects 18.4. If the Composition or Timeline panel are not focused, keyboard shortcuts for zooming the active viewer panel do not work.

This has been in fixed in After Effects Beta (v22.1). Please install the latest build to confirm the fix. Apologies for the disruption.

  12. 3d workspace

The camera views option is only available when there is a camera present. However, sometimes I open a comp with no camera in the scene and the viewer is locked to 2 or 4 panels. Would like to stop this without having to add a camera, change the view, then delete the camera

Thank you for filing this request. The issue you’ve described has been addressed in the latest releases of After Effects, with more refinements available in After Effects Beta.

Please update to the latest release of After Effects (the current release in version 18.4.1).

For a summary of the changes, please read this post:
    https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-beta-discussions/feedback-request-changes-to-3d-view-settings-for-new-comps/td-p/12216674

Summary of the changes relevant to your request:

    • The 3D View Layout menu (i.e., 1, 2, or 4 views) is now accessible via the application View menu > Switch View Layout.
    • When you create a new comp, it will always be set to Draft 3D off, View Layout at 1 View, and 3D View at Active Camera (Default Camera).
  13. I want to get the values of Duration, Stretch, outTime of a layer with an expression

Currently, there is no way to get the Layer's Duration, Stretch, and outTime values in an expression.
I want you to add this method to Expression.

  15. Expand parameters based on used keyframes via Shortcut

Especially when dealing with multiple layers and parameters within each layer, it is frustrating to have to manually navigate to open and view each keyframe. Wouldn't it be nice to have a shortcut key command that automatically expands parameters within each layer that have used keyframes? That way I can quickly go to the parameters I need adjusting quickly. I understand there are shortcuts that lead to individual parameters (ie, "T" or opacity), but usually one would animate multiple parameters alongside each other. To have one shortcut that opens only the parameters that contain keyframes as a starting point for…

Thank you for filing this request.

Please update to the latest version of After Effects. As of today, 11 January 2021, the current public version is 17.5.1.

The October 2020 release of After Effects, version 17.5, did change the behavior of using the Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows) key to dynamically change the behavior of different tools. This was done to accommodate the improved 3D camera tools. In After Effects 17.5, when there are 3D layers present, holding Option/Alt while using any tool would switch to the Universal Camera Tool.

This behavior can be disabled via a new option: Preferences > 3D > “Activate Option/Alt – Left/Middle/Right mouse click for camera navigation”. This is on by default, and disabling this will restore the previous behavior of tools when there are 3D layers in your comp.

That said, the feedback we heard was that this new behavior in After Effects 17.5…

  19. Bring back the unified camera tool

Why did you get rid of it in the first place??? We were used to it. It worked!

You added all these nifty camera tools, like orbit around cursor or scene. Which would be fine. Except I want to change something and now it doesn't work the way I'm used to. Like using my center mouse button, which was super useful.

So I have to spend time looking at your documentation. Which is TERRRIBLE by the way. It's super confusing and I don't understand which is the most like the old behavior.

Stop breaking things we're used to even if…

  20. Change camera controls back to the mouse, please!

The Camera controls trough the three buttons of the mouse provided an amazing workflow for setting the camera moves.

The recent upgrade of AE i did now doesn´t have the Camera Tool anymore, instead, is divided into three different functions; "Orbit Around Scene Tool, Pan Under Cursor Tool and and Dolly Towards Cursor Tool".

By doing this change the workflow has become WAAAY slower for me, since i have to keep hitting C to change between tools.

These three functions used to be accessible through the three buttons of the mouse, and it was so much intuitive and easier to…
