  1. Don't require track mattes to be above the layer it modifies (and also allow re-use)

    Requiring a track matte to be right above the layer it modifies seems like an archaic convention at best. Get rid of that requirement and make them like parent layers which can be anywhere and used by many layers.

  2. Adopting the powers of node-based programs by tweaking the set matte effect.

    Inspired by Node-based workflows. We often want to combine different mattes into one layer without the need of pre-comping—and then even use the same matte for multiple layers.

    If we improve the already existing "Set Matte" Effect with the functions of the "Track Matte", we may be on a better path!

  3. Folders in After Effects timeline

    Timeline folders. We have them in Animate, Photoshop, Illustrator... precomps can utterly ruin your work and is NOT an alternatives to having a simple folder hierarchy - especially when dealing with shape layers or anything that requires continual rasterization.

  4. Update the Add Grain effect to use GPU and 32-bit

    I need to apply grain frequently in my work to clean plates I’ve created, and it needs to match the 6k/4k HDR plates I’ve been provided. I prefer Add Grain to Match Grain, as it’s quicker and more accurate for me to manually set it. Because of the size of the plates, and the lack of GPU acceleration in this plug-in, it’s the main bottleneck in my rendering speed, plus 32-bit would help with color fidelity. Obviously, multiframe rendering would be great, too, but I would at least love GPU acceleration to start!

  5. revamp the mesh warp

    the whole distort family effects would need some love, but the mesh warp could be a super powerful tool if could :
    -have access to every points and tangeants positions
    -lasso select points
    -scale, shear, rotate the grid to affect only a part of the image
    -making it 3d
    -promote it to b 32bpc gpu accelerated
    -go beyond those request and make it a weapon of choice

    to my knowledge this effect has been change only once to be able to move points with arrow keys...

  6. Make All Effects 32bit Compatible

    I use After Effects for compositing my 3D renders, and I always export 16 or 32 bit EXRs, starting to use ACES. Unfortunately, many, many effects are still only 8 bit, some support 16, and some can do 32. If you don't want to lose me and many other compositors (at least those that are left), please update more effects to 32bit!

  7. AE should remember effects layer inputs (like set matte) when copy/pasting layers. Currently need to manually reconnect after pasting,

    This is how parenting works when you copy/paste a new set of layers. It creates parents relative to the new layers you've pasted. That is smart, now if only effects worked the same way! For some reason the default behavior on plugins is to revert the layer inputs on effects like “set matte” or “create nulls from paths” to the source layer that the effect is applied to after pasting.

    I frequently use both of the aforementioned effects to make templates, and I'm constantly copy/pasting sets of template layers into new comps, but every time I do I have to…

  8. Add a native UVW mapping plugin.

    AE needs a native UVW mapping plugin, so that you can export UV maps from 3D apps and you can map images onto 3D object renders. You could make awesome templates (and ultimately mogrts) with 3D renders where the user could swap out image textures on 3D objects!

    Why native? Because then you can sell those templates without requiring others to buy a 3rd party plugin.

    The most obvious uses would be for things like bendy pages on a wedding album or images wrapped onto text. But it would open up unlimited possibilities to very creative people.

  10. Set Adjustment Layer (like Set Matte)

    Steal a page from the 'Set Matte' playbook and create a 'Set Adjustment Layer' effect. This would allow an adjustment layer to live anywhere in the comp and frees the layers you want to affect from being required to live underneath the adjustment layer itself.

    A 'Set Adjustment Layer' effect would allow for an entire effect stack that lives on an adjustment layer to be easily instanced out to whichever layer(s) you want. It would make for a smoother workflow instead of having to copy the desired effect with relative links and pasting to individual layers since you would now…

  11. "Track Matte" feature for the "Set Matte" Effect.

    CC composite is great for compositing its own layer over itself again, the track mattes is good for tracking an alpha/luma of a layer above itself.
    However, many times I'd like to composite, say an icon, over a circle shape - then animate each one independently (perhaps the circle scales up and the icon slides down to the centre of the circle), then, have the icon track the circles alpha channel so you only ever see the icon inside the circle.
    Set matte doesnt often work as you are manipulating transform properties, and set matte seems to only work when…

  12. Just wanted to say thank you for Master Properties!

    Just wanted to thank the AE dev team for implementing Master Properties. This is the killer feature we've all been waiting for.

    I can say this will hopefully prevent me for trading in my hard won AE skills and turning to Nuke or Fusion. Something I was seriously considering.

    I'm sure the devs are continually subjected to ranting, angry bug reports. I know I've written a couple.

    Well it's time to say thank you. I complained. You listened and built a feature I actually need, that significantly improves the software.

  16. More love for 360/VR in After Effects

    since 2018, Ae has not been updated in relation to VR/360 workflows. Ae has limited VR effects and the VR Comp Editor workflow which is also very limited and delicate script and expression heavy process.

    Ae should have a spherical camera, mono and stereo. this would obsolete the stiching workflow of VR Comp Editor and it's limitations. 3d plugins like trapcode or stardust are very breakable, also all the 2d effects won't work properly without the use of 3rd party tools and even then it's very limited.

    these new technologies should not be left behind, there are great things motion…

  17. gradient map like photoshop

    gradient map in photoshop is able to re-color the image depending on the color of the gradient

    that allowing me to reach this result in coloring
    Inside photoshop

    I think it’s to much effective to re-color use gradient
    Than the (Tint filter) ,Tint is limited to two value only :(

  18. Default color for Outer glow/ Inner glow should be white.

    The default color for Outer/Inner glow layer styles is an odd yellow/gold that nobody wants to use. Light defaults should always be white, dark defaults should always be black. Examples, drop shadow effect, Tint, Gradient Ramp, etc.

  19. Separate Keyframes for Mask Feather Tool

    The Mask Feather Tool should have its own separate keyframes.

    As of now, its keyframes are the same, as the mask shape keys, so if you already animated a mask shape, you cannot animate the "feather tool" separately.

    Alternatively, please give us a "Uber Key" as seen in Mocha.

  20. Better Camera Projection Workflow

    The Camera projection workflow in AE is horrible. A dedicated Projection effect as well as being able to project higher resolution would be much appreciated. Currently the resolution limit is 4K and the workflow for setting up spot lights and light transmission onto geo is horribly inefficient.
