Bug report: Exposure effect > Gamma Correction control is broken
The Exposure effect in the latest version gives a different result with the same exposure values as before. For example, in my project I have the Exposure effect with the Exposure value set to 3. If I open the project in the latest AE version it looks so much brighter. To get the same look in CC 2014, I have to set the Exposure value to 15 instead of 3.
I found that the Gamma Correction slider in the Exposure effect behave inconsistently with the previous versions of AE. If the Exposure value is set to 0 and you drag…

Fix "Work Area" preview functionality
When I have a Work Area delineated in my composition, I hit Preview (Numpad 0). Currently, under the Preview Panel, I have the Range set to "Work Area" for Numpad 0. I would expect this to then just render preview frames in that Work Area. Instead, it renders those preview frames -- and then continues to render frames until the end of the composition, causing a massive slowdown. I contacted Adobe support and they directed me here.

Bring back the link to opening finished renders in the Render Queue.
Bring back the link to opening finished renders in the Render Queue. In earlier versions clicking the link would open the file's location. This would be the text generated in the "Output to" field.

16.0.1 preview not playing back in real time
Experienced user.
iMac Pro (2017)
Processor 3.2 GHz Intel Xeon W
Memory 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4
Graphics Radeon Pro Vega 64 16368 MBAfter Effects had been working perfectly fine up until today. I cannot get (ram) preview to playback in real-time for the life of me, which is problematic when you're animating to voiceover. "Cache before playback" is checked. "If caching, played cached frames" is unchecked.
I'm assuming it's just a bug that needs fixed.
3 votesThe latest (November 2019) release of After Effects includes major improvements to our preview architecture. You should see reliable, real-time playback of cached frames.

AE 2019 Preview Renders Unusably Slow
For some reason, comps in After Effects are spontaneously vacillating between previewing smoothly with almost no stutters, and suddenly screeching to a crawl, making it impossible to work even at quarter view. The comp is composed of simple 2D layers, and my machine is more than capable of rendering the preview as it's running an i9 9900K, 64Gig of 3200mhz cl15 ram, SSD storage and a 2080ti.

AE cc2019 16.0.1 crashes when entering in a precomp
As the subject says When I double click to go to a precomp it crashes without any reason. I'm using windows 10.
I've downgraded to 16.0 and it seems fine.

Ram preview plays back slow on 4k monitor unless I hide timeline panel
When your timeline panel is displayed on a large monitor, ram previewing is seriously compromised. If I simply hide the timeline, ram previewing works perfectly. I'm guessing that the code behind the timeline is super old, and needs to be free programs for bigger monitors.

Extractor BUG, 2019
with the new update of AE 2019, whenever we are using extractor on exr passes, extractor is not going away, so at the end of the project we end up having like 55 extractor menus open on the second monitor, which is a bit funny. please fix, thanks.
5 votesThis is fixed in the latest (November 2019) release of After Effects. Multichannel EXRs are now 10-12x faster. There is also native support for Cryptomatte, and you can import EXR sequences as layered compositions.

One AE file can be edited by 2 or more person real time.
I work in a company and we mainly use After Effects for production. There are times that we need to produce a lot of videos that are separated in different compositions and in a very tight deadline. We can't help each other since it is not feasible to work in one AE file with 2 or more persons using it. Is there a way that this can be possible?

String memory leak
Error 83::2 - String Memory Leak
I get this error message every time I log out of AE 2019 whilst using one particular project that involves a lot of imports. Will not open the files again later. I can work around it by importing the file into a new project, but once I save the NEW project, under a different name and go to quit the program, I get the same error message and rinse and repeat. I don't know which, if any, files are corrupt and the program otherwise acts normally until I try and close out the program.It…47 votesThis is fixed in After Effects 17.0.1, released last night. BUG - "Enable font size adjustment" in MOGRT does not work unless "...custom font" also selected
Testing the Essential Graphics /MOGRT workflow in CC19 apps, came across this bug. When creating a new template in After Effects, BOTH of these options (enable size and enable font selection) must be checked before exporting in order to enable font size adjustment. Just having the "enable font size adjustment" box checked by itself does not allow font size adjustment in Premiere; the box is there but nothing happens.
2 votesThis is fixed as Pr Ae 16.1 and Pr 13.1 (aka CC 2019.1). You can now enable Font Size controls for Ae mogrt without having to have Font Selection checked.

can't render in OS X Terminal with AE CC19
Just upgraded today and get an error when I try to render through the Terminal, attached. I don't know how to evoke a different engine and have never had to before.
1 voteThank you for filing this report.
Your screenshot shows that you are launching After Effects 15.1.2, but asking it to open a project saved by After Effects 16.0.1.
You can resolve this by one of two methods:
1. Use the command line to launch After Effects 16.0.1 (aka After Effects CC 2019).
2. From After Effects 16.0.1, choose File > Save As > Save A Copy As CC (15.x), and render from that project file using After Effects 15.1.2. -
After Effects Crash on .TGA import to comp. Also get better customer service that can actually answer questions regarding a specific product
Latest version of After Effects. Import a .TGA sequence fine. Import a single .TGA and After Effects crashes and requires I close the app. The .TGA sequence that imports fine is 8192 X 8192. The single .TGA is the same size. One crashes after effects the other does not. This BUG just showed up today after update. Additionally I attempted to contact support and was directed to a person that was reading from a web page trying to assist, zero experience with After Effects. We pay a monthy subscription and the only time I have ever contact Adobe about a…

BUG: Essential Graphics Stalls Timeline Scrubbing
I have a fairly large project that uses the Essential Graphics panel to control about 20 properties across 10-12 comps. When the EG panel is closed, everything works perfectly. But as soon as I open the EG panel and attempt to scrub in the Timeline AE freezes for about 25-30 seconds.
One workaround I've discovered is that if I group the properties into folders, as long as the folder is collapsed I can scrub freely. But as soon as I expand the group of properties the problem returns.
Coworkers with smaller projects and fewer EG properties are experiencing the same…

apply color LUT strength slider
I use the "Apply color LUT" effect all of the time. However more often than not I need to adjust the strength of the LUT, so it would be very handy to have a "strength" slider build right into this plug-in.
2 votesThank you for filing this request.
In the Timeline panel, every effect has a Compositing options section, which includes an Effect Opacity control. (This is also the set of controls you would use to add a mask to the effect.)
Does this do what you want for the Apply Color LUT effect? Or are you asking for a different result? If something different, please elaborate.
Update 4 Dec 2018:
Based on your comment below, I’m going to close this as resolved. Glad the effect opacity control works for you. -
Next/Previous frame
Don't know the exactly category for this, and I don't know if you have this function already and I was the one uncapable to find, but you should add some shortcut for moving from a frame to the other, without the mouse, like we have on Premiere: arrow left, arrow right.
I know you already have a thing like this for Key Frames, but I'm saying it for every frame, cause sometimes I just want to add a Key next to the other and I need to zoom it all that I can to find the frame right beside it…2 votesThe Page Up and Page Down keys will move the current time one frame backwards or forwards in time.
If you are working on a keyboard without Page Up/Page Down keys, you can either:
- Hold the Command (macOS) or Control (Windows) key and press the Left and Right arrow keys.
- Hold the Function key and press the Up and Down arrow keys.
Adding the Shift key will move the current time backwards or forwards 10 frames at a time.
There are other keyboard shortcuts for time navigation:

Crash When Editing Text CC2019
I had written too much text and it went outside of the bounding box, so to fix it I was going to change the font size. So I hit Shift + Up and I got an immediate crash.

sampleImage script command
This is both a ExtendScript bug report and a feature request.
Bug first. This "hack" worked in earlier versions of AE:
var sliderControl = layer("ADBE Effect Parade").addProperty("ADBE Slider Control");
sliderControl.name = "temppscontrol";
sliderControl(1).expression = "thisLayer.sampleImage([300,50], [1,1])[3];";
var alpha = sliderControl(1).value;
alert(alpha)It would get the sampled alpha from an AVLayer. It doesn't return the correct value any more, because the script moves on before the sampleImage expression has run.
Feature request: It would be nice if sampleImage was simply included in ExtendScript.

Edit text from Photoshop file directly in After Effects
It would be great if after importing a Photoshop file you could edit the text directly in After Effects. This is a feature you can already do in Premiere Pro but would be great if you could do it in After Effects as well.
2 votesThank you for filing this request.
This is already possible. In After Effects, you can convert a Photoshop text layer into an After Effects text layer: right-click on the layer in the Timeline panel, then choose Create > Convert to Editable Text.
More information is here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/creating-editing-text-layers.html#convert_text_from_photoshop_to_editable_textIf this functionality doesn’t meet your needs, please file a new request with more detail about how you’d like After Effects to behave with text in a PSD file.
